SOLVED!
Turns out it was a corrupt slate I put on the start of the full sequence, but wasn’t included in the 4-5min test export.
I replaced the slate and all seems to be working normally once more!

UPDATE:
I tried to bring that QT ref into FCP7 with the hope of exporting FCP’s version of a QT ref and then bring THAT into Compressor. FCP crashed with the same error message as Compressor: “Compressor quit unexpectedly while using the AvidAVinCodec plugin.”
So it must be the Quicktime codec, but how do I fix it? I’ve already reinstalled the Quicktime codecs, as well as Avid.
I’ve used these workflows many times in the past. Why am I getting crashes now all of a sudden – after not making any changes that I’m aware of. -

February 10, 2015 at 4:52 pm in reply to: Blu-Ray with Encore: Dramatic Gamma Shift HappeningHi Danny,
Thanks for your response.
Unfortunately, my festival deadline has already passed, but I would still love to find a way to fix this issue. I ended up dropping a color correction layer over all my clips in my Avid sequence and brightening it and reducing the contrast. While it looked too bright and flat in Avid (and on my balanced monitor), it looked as I wanted it to look on the finished Blu-ray.
How do I check those output setting sin Avid – what should they be?
I’m using Encore CS6, version 6.0.0.492.
Thanks again for your help!

January 21, 2015 at 4:57 pm in reply to: Importing an avid project with dnxhd-mxf into premiere pro cs6?Has anyone found a solution to the generic error message?
I’m trying to move an Avid sequence to a Premiere project on another computer, so I can’t use Shane’s method exactly. Instead I used the copy media option in Avid, telling it to send the Avid media to the external drive I’m shuttling off to the other location. Other than that, the AAF settings Shane used match mine.
BUT when I try to import the AAF in Premiere and it asks me to link to the MXF, I get the generic error message. The audio transfers fine, and I can see my Avid sequence, just with the Media Offline red screen.I’m working with Avid MC 7.0.4 and testing the AAF on Premiere Pro CS6.
Thanks!

Thanks again everyone for your input on this.
I did a test today by exporting MXF files from RED Cine X, then copying them to the Avid MediaFiles folder, then using the Media Tool inside Avid to add them to the project.
Now I’m stuck. How do I then relink the footage back to the original 4K material for online?
All the tutorials and forums I’ve found talk about the process using AMA, which I can’t do with this version of Avid. -
Thanks Brendan. That looks really helpful.
I assume this workflow will work similarly for AMC 5.0.3? -
Thanks for all your help, everyone.
Pat – where can I find the QT ref. files? Do I have to create them in RED Cine X?If I’m doing an offline – online workflow and want to work first in DNX36, then revert back to the original 4K footage, what’s the best workflow?
Would those QT ref. files relink without any problems to that original footage, or should I use RED Cine X to covert to DNX36?Thanks again for all your help. It looks like a lot of research still needs to be done, but at least now I know there is no direct AMA workflow with AMC 5 and RED Scarlet footage – it’s not just my computer.

Thanks for your help guys.
The plugin you both send me a link to is the one I had already downloaded, but when I try to install it, I get the following error message:No suppported editors
The installation failed!
No compatible Avid editor could be found.
This AMA plug-in installer is compatible with:
Avid Media Composer 5.5.1~7.0.0
Avid Symmphony 5.5.1~7.0.0That message seems to be saying that the plugin only works for AMC 5.5, even though above the link where I downloaded it on the Avid website, they say it’s compatible with AMC 5.0
Not sure what’s going on here… -

December 5, 2012 at 12:44 am in reply to: FCP: “Searching for movie data in file…” On start-upThanks for your response Nick.
Unfortunately, the Online house belongs to the client, and not only do they want to do the 2nd half of the edit there themselves, but they are very firm on only using DVCPro.
I copied the 3 original edit drives to 3 new drives, and now have a 4th drive which I set FCPs Media Manager function to create the DVCPro files on.
Once that process was complete, I copied all other files and folders from the drive containing the corresponding ProRes files to the new drive. So, yes everything matches the original 3 drives, including the drive names themselves. -
Thanks for that Nick. I do indeed have the same frame rates.
Right now I’m doing a batch Media Manager conversion. I’ll do a test later to make sure it worked. Thank you for your help!
