………There, now that that’s done, I have to wonder what she died of? Was she as Hillbilly as you, Grin? 😛
Also, I have to wonder which is more extraordinary: that “Ole Bessy” lasted as long as she did, or that Grinner was able to make a comfy living on an old Symphony 3.1 for several years? I’m a firm believer in the mantra “It’s not the tool you use, but the end product that counts” (heck, I sign all my posts with it over at the Avid forums), but that’s still pretty incredible!
Congrats on your new toy, Grinner. You’ll love the Adrenaline. It’s come a long way from its 1.0 version–buggy as hell. Now they’re a down-right pleasant product to edit with. I miss mine. If I can ever get settled down and get my business going again, I’ll buy another one in a heartbeat! I think you’ll find the new SpectraMatte a suitable replacement for Ultimatte (if you even had it in “Ole Bessy”), plus lots of other great features. The integrated BCC is nice, too.
Also gotta wonder what converted you to the Adrenaline camp and soothed your hatred toward it? You definitely had it in for it (and seemingly Avid) for quite a while.

3) To me personally, going with a certified tower-based system for XPro+Mojo & storage is the best bet. Problem is, you lose your portability. Good thing: you gain more power over a laptop.

5) You’ll make more money as a doctor than an editor…unless you make it BIG as an editor. The question is, which would you rather do? Which is more enjoyable for you and which would you rather make a living with?

A combination of real/CG fire was mapped to actor Chris Klein’s body when he was on fire. The actor footage was shot in front of a green screen. The trails I’ve also heard were done with Particle Illusion (or combustion, which has PI 2 technology embedded).
You’d be amazed just how many people are using that little $300 app!

Are you using XPro 5.x (XPro HD)? Did you upgrade in the middle of a project? If so, the reason your blue/green button is gone is because that is no longer in XPro 5. The blue/green button has been replaced by a “1394” button instead.
If you’re using XPro 4.x, then it sounds like a corruption in the software, and you might have to reinstall.

This is known as “muzzle flash.”

There’s other ways, too. Particle Illusion is great. Discreet combustion 2 and later has PI 2.x technology embedded into the program. The muzzle flashes are in there, too and no need to repurchase PI if you’ve already got combustion.
There’s books out there that cover this topic, too. Try “Adobe After Effects 6.5 Studio Techniques” by Mark Christiansen, as he dedicates a whole chapter on fire and explosions, of which muzzle flash is touched upon, and even shell-casings ejecting from the gun. (Hint: use a small mask and blur it.)

Corrupted software install? If it’s not too much trouble, you might try uninstalling and reinstalling the Media Composer software and see if that fixes it. It could also be a corrupted settings file in your software.

First suggestion: upgrade to Adrenaline 2.x. Lots of improvements over 1.x. If you have Assurance, it shouldn’t be too expensive to upgrade.

No, no…this forum (the Avid Cow) is for ALL Avid users, from Free DV to DS Nitris and Unity users. Besides MichaelP and Marianna (Montague), there’s not really any Avid employees who monitor this forum. The ONLY reason I directed you towards the Avid forums is to give you direct access to people who use your specific project (on a specific forum–FOR XPro+Mojo), plus get to you a site where Avid employees (including Customer Service and Tech Support) frequent. Also, the moderator’s over there can get you into contact with the people who know the answers to your questions, should they or the users not be able to resolve them themselves.
Other than that, I spend a ton of time on this forum…mostly “lurking” but always reading and learning. 🙂 This is a great resource, by all means USE IT!

Your Mojo could be dying…which is not an uncommon problem. You might try dropping an email to Avid tech support, or even posting over at the Avid forums, which are frequented by Avid personnel more than this one (no offense, Kathlyn and Ron!). I realize it’s bad form to advertise for another forum on this one, but in this situation, I think it’s acceptable. In any case, I’d start out on the XPro forum for starters.
