You don’t…not in XPro natively. However, if you have Boris, you can create and animate transfer modes in its interface (Boris FX or Boris Red/Avid FX). I think you can also achieve Transfer Modes using some of the Boris Continuum Complete effects, too.
There’s another free plugin out there, called “Transfer AVX.” It was created by Profound Effects (makers of Elastic Gasket and other plugins), and allows you to have Transfer Modes right in your Avid. Since the Cow won’t let me give you the site here directly, go to this thread that I typed up on the Avid Forums for more information on it and where to download it for FREE. Avid’s working on Transfer Modes. Maybe in XPro 6 later this year…if not in 6, hopefully in 7.

Not that I know of. You’re stuck with Boris, or Avid’s own Trackers in Symphony Nitris.

And trust me, they realize how dire things are becoming for them, when compared to some of the competition’s offerings. I mean come on, you can edit 2K files in Premiere Pro 2? Premiere has pretty much always been the king of prosumer editing NLE’s, and now it’s growing up fast. It’s not Avid, but it’s getting there.
I think NAB’s going to be HUGE this year. Reliable sources have leaked me a few rumors regarding new things coming from Avid…I think it’s going to be incredible. Apple FCP6 is supposedly being announced, too. I’ve seen what was supposedly the “beta” of it, but wasn’t able to see much. I did see the PPro 2 beta 2 months ago and was quite impressed. I’ve also heard Vegas 7 is coming, too. With all these great improvements, I expect HUGE advances in XPro 6, also rumored to be coming at NAB.
It’s going to be a long 2.5 months waiting for NAB, but be patient…it’ll get here.

Avid IS the best, as far as I’m concerned. Unfortunately, it is THEIR thinking that needs to change in lots of areas. They’re still living back in the early-to-mid ’90’s in some aspects, but are realizing that change is not only inevitable, but necessary. Give them some time and they’ll get back on track. They’re working on it.

If you don’t like it, try picking up a Boris product, such as Boris FX 8, Red 3GL, or Avid FX (Red 3GL in an Avid wrapper). They feature built-in compositing modes that look better than Transfer AVX, IMHO. Renders quick, too.

You are justified in your complaints. Avid is aware of its archaic effects-handling (among many other aspects of their software) and are working to correct this. It will take time, but will happen.
For now, if you want to make your requests very noticeable to Avid (in other words, you want to post them where Avid will actually READ them, try posting here: https://www.avid.com/exchange/forums/44/ShowForum.aspx)

Well, there used to be a Title Deko plugin for AVX, which I believe was compatible for all systems. Where you’d find it is another story. Maybe you could try Googling it or calling around to some places that sell plugins? You could also try B&H Photo & Video in NYC, as they always have wild stuff in backstock. You might be able to get a steal on it.
If I recall correctly, Title Deko Pro was able to be installed in numerous different formats, including AVX (Avid), also for Premiere, After Effects, etc. Hey, maybe even an email to Pinnacle might yield some results. Pinnacle marketed Title Deko for years, and now that they’re owned by Avid…who knows? Rumor has it Avid’s working on bringing Hollywood FX back for AVX systems…

The Studio Toolkit HD–which features Avid FX (Boris Red 3GL), Avid 3D (based off of the now-defunct softimage 3D from Softimage), and Avid DVD (Sonic DVD Producer)–features a whole bunch of powerful possibilities. There was a special going on recently, where you could get a copy of the Studio Toolkit HD for $995. That’s a limited time offer that may have already expired, but is also an insanely good deal. I suggest you look into Studio Toolkit HD a bit more before discounting it. Don’t discount Xpress Studio, either…especially if you need the audio capabilities offered by Pro Tools LE, the appropriate Digidesign hardware (Mbox or Digi 002) and the DV Toolkit. It would be cheapest to simply buy Xpress Studio if this is the route you are planning on taking.
I also second the suggestion to get an HP xw8200…it’s an excellent computer. The best, in my opinion, and Avid’s certified workstation of choice. You can’t go wrong with it.
I will offer one last piece of advice: it’s January, as you well know. That means that NAB is only 3 months away, and that’s when Avid makes its major announcements for their big new products for the year. If you buy now, you might regret your purchase in 3 months should Avid announce something hot and new in the hardware (or software) department. It would likely behoove you to hold off on any purchases for another 3 months, just in case something big comes about. If you need XPro/Mojo now, go ahead and get it, but you may find yourself selling it in April or May if something better comes along. Selling something used on Ebay doesn’t always fetch you the price you’d like to get…especially when it comes to Avid products.

You could also use Boris Graffiti or Red (or Avid FX if you have the Studio Toolkit HD). If you can do it with built-in tools, that’s always best.
