More pro’s are using the IS on a tripod mounted camera especially with a lens like the 70-200 f2.8, the still side of photography tells you not too but video is different.

Pluraleyes seems to be a good option, Philip Bloom has an article on it here: https://philipbloom.co.uk/2010/01/23/is/

Are you in Tv or Av mode?
Double check you are in manual mode, select movie shooting at the start/stop button, rotate the wheel on the top plate near the shutter and you should see 40 50 60 etc. You will not see less than 1/30th in movie mode.

Some feel that Cineform’s Neoscene does a better conversion to their codec than prores. Neoscene converts to a 4.2.2 .avi and is very easy to edit.
If your editing is going to be simple, then take a look at cutting your footage in Quicktime Pro, I know people who do not convert their Canon footage and import direct into QT Pro and use it to export.
The quality of my footage transcoded with Neoscene, edited in Vegas Pro looks great. I export as a Quicktime .mov file.

The fact is, Hollywood are adopting the Canon 5D MK2 big time, George Lucas and countless TV shows. The Tonight Show shot it’s new intro to the show on a Canon 5D.
Red is expected to be better, it’s a lot more money. Look at the PL mount conversion being offered on the Canon 7D, which is aimed at the movie industry.
Today you can shoot with a 5D or 7D, when will you get a Scarlett as an option?

Yes you can use your laptop as an external monitor and a remote control for the camera, using a USB cord that was supplied with the camera

Using the Canon utility software that came with your camera, connect your camera to a laptop with the software installed using a USB cord and you will get recording to the card, the lcd will be in use and the live image will be on the laptop as well.

I think a slider would be a good investment and give some nice shots.
Here is the Glidetrack, there are lots of other brands.https://www.glidetrack.com/home
