Well, You’re doing it absolutely right.
When you highlight or select the Sound-Track in the Timeline
the Sequence- and Sound-Properties should be visible
    in the Attributes-Manager.
I just checked it here and it works fine (using a Mac).
I presume there is no difference between Mac and PC.

    Cheers

    Open the Timeline/File/NewTrack/Sound/select the Track/
in the Sound Properties choose your Soundtrack.
And activate Play Sound and Use Sound.

I’m not sure if I understand you right.
Open the PLA track in the Timeline –
select a Key-Frame and play with Bias
    in the Properties,

  • Please try the free plugin “Hair Department”
and see if that works for you.

  • Of Course the easy way would be “PlaceOnPints2” .

Create a can with a Lathe-Nurbs call it “Can”,
copy the can and call it “Drops”.
Crate a Water Drop Texture with Colour, Transparency, Bump, Alpha
    and maybe Displacement.
Put a Water- or if you like experiment with a Noise shader in these channels and play the settings
    you like best.
With the Texture Axis animate the Offset (X).
You might have to scale down the “Can-Nurbs” a little
    to see the drops.

Unfortunately I don’t know that tutorial.
I’m really not sure what you mean with “the polys it creates overlap on the top”.
If one puts two cubes 90 degree to each other and extrude the two polys,
which touch each other at the corner, one creates just another cube, then two more…
    five in the end.
Maybe I’m getting here something wrong.

Well, that sounds all very strange to me.
You don’t have by any chance locked your X-Y-Z-Axis
in coordination with your Bezier-Spline ?

I’m not sure if I understand you right.
You say “it simply creates linear lines point to point”
but that’s exactly what it is suppose to do.
When you click at different positions you just create a straight line.
If you click and drag you create a Bezier-Handle and round the point.
Or after you have finished select all and choose Soft Interpolation.
