Sometimes I’m able to get a sound person. And sometimes it’s me with the mic attached to my camera. That being the case, should that affect what mic i want? Im aware the sound is never nearly as good without a boom person. But that’s not always an option.

I’m about to make this same choice now. I guess I’m inclined to pay a bit more for the NTG-3 and consider it a long term investment but Id love to hear other opinions.

I appreciate the pushback here. It’s always good to have opposing voices. this is the setup Errol Morris uses and he’s my favorite documentarian. i dont mind blatantly ripping this element off from him. Now, if i could be just as good an interviewer, director and editor as him…..

Your points all make sense. I do feel though that if I’m going to have a film centered around a long interview of someone – kind of like the doc Collapse that recently came out (i really well directed film) – than i cant just keep asking them to look into the camera. if i want someone talking for hours, i need them to have eye contact. its always the best way to get someone to open up i think.

The thinking is that it lets the subject look deadahead at the camera. And I want that look….

Do they make converters that I can use multiple devices in i.e. connect two different camcorders to two different monitors? I didn’t see anything like this but that doesnt mean it doesnt exist….

I’m planning on using it to conduct interviews, putting my face on the teleprompter so I can have eye contact with the person while they are still looking directly into the camera.

That being the case, I’m inclined to gt a 17″ teleprompter so they have as large a face as possible to look at when I’m speaking to them. Although, I do worry about the pain of shlepping around a 17″ teleprompter.
