  • Can I change the clip’s speed, keep all the footage, and not ripple the track?

I’m having a hard time figuring this out. I feel like it’s an easy answer. Grrr….

If I have a clip and I want to make it run at 50%, I do Commad+J and change the speed. Except the size of the clip, after the change, stays the same. The same happens if I make the change to 200%. This is annoying cause all I want is the footage in the original clip, not anything else that gets added (or in some cases, subtracted).

I know I can change this with Ripple Sequence. But, I dont want to ripple the entire sequence. I want to play around with the clip on one track and think about what to do with it.

So – the question: can i change the speed of the clip, keep all the footage that was in the clip when it was 100%, and not ripple the sequence?

    Create a new track.
Move the clip you want to speed change to it.
    Lock all the other tracks.
Do a “Ripple Sequence” speed change.

or simply put the clip at the end of the sequence, do your ripple speed change then move the clip back to where you want it.

Ripple only moves the edits after the point in the timeline where you performed the edit, so if you are on the last shot, then there is nothing afterward to ripple.

or match frame into the source monitor, apply the speed effect and overwrite back into the sequence.
