Oh scary! I’ve never seen that happen. The cam might be damaged to the point of needing pro repair. One thing you can try is to reset the scene files to factory. You do this by scrolling down through the settings until you see init- select it and say yes. It may also simply be wet inside. So you may want to put it in a dry place and let it sit unpowered for a day or two and then try again.

Most DV dealers and rental houses have a service center that can do cleaning. You might give Abel Cine a call and see what they say.

This article breaks it down pretty well:

  • The camera records 24 pictures each second. These are then pulled down electronically- much the same way film is telecined to video to achieve a standard 29.97 frame rate. This can then be reverse telecined in post to achieve the original 24 frames on a computer. It is also capable of shooting at 29.97- aka 60i so you get footage that looks like a normal video camera if you desire such a thing.

FCP 5- File>Import>Panasonic P2. Works with P2 reader or via Firewire from Camera.

Standard is a definite across Avid. Advanced not sure on that particular system. You might want to contact Avid and see if they’ve included Advanced support on that one.

Spend some time playing with the program. There are plenty of ways you could do something like this- particles, the slit scan filter, etc.
