My camera isn’t properly reading timecode on tapes in playback and I’m getting a blue screen… I tried running the head cleaning tape (this is the first time I’ve tried it) and I am still getting no reading on the tapes when I test the playback. Is this a problem that requires bringing the camera in for professional cleaning? If so, does anyone have recommendations for a service center in the Los Angeles area? Thanks…

Most DV dealers and rental houses have a service center that can do cleaning. You might give Abel Cine a call and see what they say.

I am having the same problem. My camera has only 1 hour on it. I have been getting the red X in the viewfinder. It was hot that day and i thought that was the problem. Now it happened again, on another hot day. The tape will not playback on the camera – same blue screen that the previous poster had. The tape pays back on my Sony DV deck and looks fine. Occassionally it will play back on the camera but it’s blue screen for the most part.

Will running the tape cleaner help in this case or will a trip to a repair center be in order?

Both would be a solid idea.
