P2 and MAC
Posted by Chris S on August 16, 2005 at 4:35 pmOkay I am doing my capital request for 06 and want to get one of the HVX200 cameras next year, but I do all my editing in FCP. So far I have not seen support for any of the P2 card readers for Mac. Have I missed something, is there something coming I havent seen? Help me out.

August 16, 2005 at 10:36 pmFinal Cut Pro version 5 (according to apple website) claims to run native with p2, and the DVCPRO HD Codecs. Just guessing, but wouldn’t the p2 hook up via firewire on the 200? I am dying to try on of these cameras. Hope that helps…
Owning a camera does NOT make you a photographer… Advice I got from a guy dressed as a Transformer at Universal Studios in the 80’s, that still rings true…

August 17, 2005 at 1:10 pmWhat I would really like is a drive. I love the AJ-PCS060 but it only says it works with windows. This was I could save on P-2 cards. I shoot commercials so I usually only need less than 30 minutes, but if I have to do multiple shoots I dont have time to get back and dump into my system. I have thiought about a laptop but I just dont feel right buying a G4.

August 17, 2005 at 10:44 pmYou can edit P2 in FCP5. The down sides according to the guy who did a demo for us is that you have to have the P2 drive. Can’t just put the card in a PCMCIA slot. The other down side is FCP doesn’t read the metadata. So you can’t see which are marked or if they have memos attached to them in FCP. Won’t slow me down though.

August 23, 2005 at 10:55 amI’m workinng with P2 and mac FCP5.0 and I have to say, everything is fine. I’ll go via USB into a laptop g4, firewire 800 La cie for a double back up. I use the camera (SPX 800) for transfer (it’s not worth it buying a damn expensive card reader or an attached transfer disc) Costs more than a whole G4 Powerbook.
