Capture at 29.97, then step through frame by frame. 24pA has one interlaced frame every 5 frames. 24pN has more in a different pattern.

It’s a PAL country but most morern PAL DVD players and TV sets can display NTSC DVDs with no problem. Just make sure you set all regions open. I’d suggest sending a check disc to your client to be sure.

It’s really not that tricky to get in the ballpark- if you practice but it’s also nowhere near as simple as say a DV camera because you have more DOF.

I’ve heard people having decent success with some of the consumer Sony HD LCDs at around the $500 range. I imagine Panny has some consumer models in this arena as well. Again these are not ideal by any means but it’s going to be more than what you’re used to with viewfinder alone.

Try an export of your FCP timeline directly to Compressor. Then use the Quick NTSC presets- not the High Quality ones as they are buggy in the current release.

This is HD- you need an external monitor or a tape measure. The onboard viewfinder and LCF simply don’t cut it for critical focusing.

While I’d agree that in theory it’s a bit questionable I’ve found capturing and then moving media from the PB internal drive in practice is fairly reliable and less cumbersome in the field than tethering to an external drive. Just make sure you’ve got abort on dropped frames checked and leave plenty of space on the internal drive. And do many tests before going to shoot.

That is correct- set to DVCPROHD 720p or 1080i- whichever you’re shooting at and select uncontrollable device for Firewire device control. Then hit capture now.

The thing to get your head around is that FCP does add pulldown whenever you play out to firewire but the footage on your hard drive itself remains 23.98. FCP essentially does a 3:2 pulldown automatically and in realtime as you playback. It’s seamless and works like a charm.
