Depends what playback resolution/debayer quality you want to see. If you don’t have a broadcast 4K monitor you’re not really seeing 1:1 anyway so it’s kind of a moot point.

You cannot selectively trim file-based clips like the GH4’s upon ingest into FCPX but there are two ways you can get around this:
Option 1. Import the entire file in FCPX, but without copying the media to the Library (via Preferences).
This way you can work with the file in FCPX without making another copy of the large file.
Option 2. Trim the file before importing it.
Open the file with QT player.
Choose Edit > Trim. The trimming bar appears.
Drag the yellow trimming bar handles to the left and right to select the portion you want to use.
Then click Trim and choose File > Export to export the selection to a standalone movie.
When the export is done close QT player and when asked do not save the changes. This will leave your original file intact.
Now you can import import just the selection in FCPX.Noah

You’ll feel the benefits most during major file copy and multi-stream playback operations. Which hardly ever happen during editing….

Haven’t touched Windows much in the past decade but was surprised/dismayed to find much of what was bad about it then is still around now. You haven’t really lived until you’ve chased cryptic DLL’s…
I salute those folks who have made Dells work where Macs once did. The accounting department is surely happy as heck. But from the user perspective I’ll bet it feels like moving from Elysium to Cairo.

It depends on the media. If it is identical it should reconnect. If it’s not- well… it would be good to track down where it’s different.

Totally. If 2-3 hours of your own time vs. a plugin you could reuse on other projects makes more sense- that’s the way to go.

Sure you could take it into Photoshop if you *really* want to get your hands dirty. But end of the day it’s your time or your money.
