The FPN only shows up when not lighting at all. I use it for very low budget shoots and have never had any problems, with very basic lighting. But I don’t shoot in 800 ASA, even though it has improved quite a bit.
For that price and including Resolve its a very good deal, and all you have to do is light, like on any professional set and you will get very nice images.

You need to download the new utility version 1.9, uninstall the older version before installing the new one. Then it should work.

Bret, Ihad to use slice X to sharpen the subject and blur the background for one of the clips of a youtube fashion blog I’m shooting for a German Soap actress. One of the few times I’ve misfocused. She actually moves her arms alot. Slice X does get lost, but it still worked well, blurring the shape helps. Its not perfect but you do need to look closely to see imperfections. Her fans won’t notice. When it goes online I’ll post the link and see what people think.
But even Mocha needs some manual re-adjusting. I actually got a better result using the regular After FX tracker for a 4 point track a few months ago, and a Videocopilot fire under skin tutorial i was doing worked perfectly for one clip I used but got very lost on another clip. Of course, having limited Mocha experince.

Bret is right, Mocha would work very well for most situations.
Maisie, you could also check out the Mocha powered Slice X and Track X by CoreMelt for FCPX. its not as detailed as Mocha itself, but for many things could work very well, and is easy to use.
The only problem with rotoscoping would be isolating certain hair cuts. But it depends how perfect you really need it. If the protagonist has short hair or is wearing a hat, Mocha could be the perfect solution.

No. For this type of effect preparation and shooting correctly is the most important part, as Bill explained. Once that is done you can isolate the protagonist. Trying to isolate the portagonist without isolating it on set will simply not work, like shooting someone infront of a green screen wearing a green shirt.

Hey Karl,
since you’re interested in film, the BMCC could very well be a very good idea. But beware that you will need to buy a few extras to make it work well, and will need to spend at least around 1000 € extra. You might want to check out the the Blackmagic Pocket Camera, unless you really want 2k.
The most important thing: You need some kind of external power. V-mount batteries with a d-link to bmcc power adapter cable.
The LCD screen is pretty much a mirror if you shoot outside even on cloudy days. So you will need a LCD Hood, an electronic viewfinder or a LCD Monitor. You can even use a T-Shirt, I’ve done it and its not too bad… but not as comfortable.
And you will also need a basic rig, just to be able to hold it comfortably.
If you decide to record sound directly to the cam you will need a XLR to 1/4 Jack adapter or some kind of Audiorecorder. I use the Tascam DR-60D and connect it with a mini Jack to a 1/4 Jack cable, and it works very well for my needs. You can screw the Tascam on top of the camera, even though its made for DSLR to screw under, and use the Line output to connect to the cam.
In terms of image quality and dynamic range, the BMCC is a very good deal. I’m very happy with my BM Production Camera 4K. They are not very good low light cameras, but if you light your scenes, like it should be done, you will get some very nice results.

ProRes 422 is already optimised. Even if you clicked on optimise when importing, X wouldn’t render new clips. I’ve never seen anything like your problem.
Are you seeing this in Xs viewer or on an external monitor?
