September 2, 2014 at 5:29 pmSeems like a super deal,
But suppprisingly there are so many BAD reviews, mainly about the FPN. Even after the update its still there. Way less but still there.
I was almost going to buy one untill I saw the reviews, honestly, it did scare me off. maybe save up for the ursela.

September 3, 2014 at 11:15 amHi Ali – I understand your caution. There’s a lot of noise on the internet about noise 🙂
That said, Director Timothy Freeman Jr. was comfortable enough with the Production Camera to use it for his feature film “Checkmate” – starring Danny Glover and Sean Astin:
The movie was shot in its entirety on inexpensive Blackmagic Production Cameras and the even less expensive Pocket Cinema Camera:

Interesting that there is no mention of FPN from a guy who has actually shot a feature with the camera. Also interesting is that he plans to use it for his next feature.
Have you considered renting one over a weekend from Borrowlenses for a couple of hundred bucks to see for yourself?
That might save you a few thousand dollars over buying a $6000 Ursa. And there’s no guarantee that internet critics won’t find something “wrong” with the Ursa too.
Cheers,

September 3, 2014 at 6:19 pmThe FPN only shows up when not lighting at all. I use it for very low budget shoots and have never had any problems, with very basic lighting. But I don’t shoot in 800 ASA, even though it has improved quite a bit.
For that price and including Resolve its a very good deal, and all you have to do is light, like on any professional set and you will get very nice images.

September 3, 2014 at 9:10 pmSounds great, I will sure read all the links. I do think that if some one was shooting a mayor feature movie with Clover, that BM would make sure they had a proper working camera.
Problem is I can not rent, I am in the Caribbean for away from the world…
The thing in the reviews on amazone is also concerning as according to the buyers the folks at BM arte not giving the support needed for this and they get to hear things like, it can be fixed in post.
I would buy one today, if I knerw 100% sure it does not have the problem…
That said, Its an amazing cam, I even have the 2.5 k version… its fantastic!!
