The 10.0.9 Event/Project can be opened and will be updated. So she would need to duplicate and open the events and projects on another machine, if she wants to keep the older version.
Generally you shouldn’t update with unfinished projects, but unless she’s s been using lots of plugins, I would recommend she update (carefully and backing up) anyway. However, 10.1. and now 10.2 use the Library structure which is different than the old 10.0.9 event/project structure. Its easy to understand but does require some adjustment when updating. March 30, 2015 at 9:44 am in reply to: OT: editing holds in focus that made no sense.I’m pretty sure that someone of power made a decision to do it that way, either a producer or director. Perhaps the editor sugested it for more “feeling”, or the director had a hissy fit since no one agreed with him, and perhaps he said something like ” ….but Mamet did it!” And then the editor probably rolled his eyes, but kept his mouth shut for fear of being forced to use Avid the next time.
But why this focus on Focus? Aren’t bad movies made all the time on all sorts of high end equipment and a bunch of hype to go with it? And I’m pretty sure words like great, awesome, perfect and wow were probably heard on the sets of Twilight or 50 Shades as much as on the set of Focus, or even Sharknado.
Focus will probaby be one of those films our collective memory will eventually forget, when we try to explain to our grandchildren, that our generation made better movies then their generation, and why the magnetic timeline is so much better than that new interactive 3d timeline.

I tried it, registered with my account and it worked. I just checked out the Faqs page again. Under Licensing explained point 4 is states that mproducts are not limited to one machine
https://www.motionvfx.com/faq.html#general/all/1however under How to move an mplug it states that it needs to be uninstalled on one to work on another.
https://www.motionvfx.com/faq.html#mplugs/general/134I have them running on both, haven’t tried it at the same time, though. Haven’t received any warnings or complaints yet.

if you want HD quality you would need to burn a BluRay Disc. DVDs are SD, not good for HD screens. Blu Ray can be played on any HD TV, as long as you have a BluRay player. PS3 and XBox also play them.
To burn, send your project to compressor, choose the BluRay Setting and export. It will generate an H264 file and an .ac3 file. Import them in Encore and author the Disc. The quality you get will be very good, optimised for BluRay players.

November 10, 2014 at 8:34 pm in reply to: Why new final cut X is so RESTRICTIVE with connected clips? I DO NOT SEE ANY BENEFITThere’s actually an override connections command you can use if you wanted to move primary clips withouth the connected ones.
FCPX is simply a different software than FCP7. Trying to use it like a traditional NLE will not get you very far.
Most that have actually masterd the magnetic timeline find it to be faster and more flexible than working with fixed tracks, especially since you don’t need to keep your tracks organized during editing, in order have a good overview of the sound. Exporting audio with roles is faster. Now, there still are several things that need improving, and certain workflows work better with other NLEs. But that has always been the case with editing software.
You should check out tutorials by lynda.com, Ripple Training or Larry Jordan to get you started.

This is a pretty simple effect you would need to do in Motion or After Effects. I guess you could call it a cutout animation, don’t know if there’s another specific term for it.
All you have to do is freeze and mask out your subject. Then you can add a different background, some titles, flares, particles and other stuff to pimp it out.
I don’t know of any tutorials for Motion. You should find more info on the Motion forum.
