The IoHD is connected to the rear FW800 port. The DSR-45P is connected to the rear FW400 port.

Then my FW disks are connected to my FW card installed in the Mac Pro.

I figured that the IoHD connected to the rear FW800 but powered off would not interfere with the DSR-45P. But I give it a try and simply remove the IoHD FW cable from the Mac.

No, still dropped frames with the IoHD disconnected from the Mac.

Maybe a little late here, but I chime in anyway:

We use our IoHD primarily as playback device, since we shoot P2. But every now and then we capture Betacam SP using a UVW-1800P and DV/DVCAM using a DSR-45P.

First the 1800P:

VTR: Component out -> IoHD: Component in
VTR: Audio out (XLR) -> IoHD: Audio in (XLR)
VTR: RS-422 -> IoHD: RS-422 (standard Sony cable)

Io HD:

Audio out (XLR) -> Yamaha active monitors
Comp video out -> program output monitor
HDMI -> client plasma monitor

This works just fine. No need for an audio mixer, sinche the IoHD is matched with the Beta. Although, if the recording level is too low, you have to gain in FCP. But better do it there than gaining the audio output from the Beta and risk audio clipping.

Firewire out – > mac: firewire in

Big big note here:

1. The IoHD must have it’s own FireWire bus. Connect it to the internal FW port of your Mac. Your disks (if you’re using FW disks) should be connected to a FireWire adapter installed in your Mac.

2. When you want to capture using DV, switch the IoHD off before starting the Mac. If the Io HD is on and you try to capture over Apple FireWire, you’ll get a conflict and it would not work. Also set FCP to use FireWire for capture and not the IoHD.

I’d be happy to help if you still have problems. (I’ve just been into problems switching to and from IoHD and FireWire last week…)

I just want to chime in and agree. It’s well worth the money and you transfer MXF at highest possible speed.

Sorry for not giving you more info. We shoot documentaries and the final output will mostly be on DVD (SD).

You confirm my own suspicion – I’d stay with 1080i, since the other material is 625i.

Can one assume that material for the web is better to shoot progressive and if you are to view on TV, interlaced is the best?

(There’ll be CRT TVs for some more years ahead, I think).

Use the component in and/or outputs from the 1800 to the Io.
You could use composite video as sync, but the best would be to use a sync generator for the 1800.

I’ve been told that our Io HD itself does not need any ref input when capturing from our 1800P, but I have connected a black burst to the ref in on the IoHD anyway. (And of course to the 1800P as well).

Works like a charm – big bonus is the built-in RS422 control of the IoHD.

I stand fully and blushingly corrected. Switched from 625i to 720p (or 1080i) as secondary and hey presto – now I have an image and sound over HDMI.

(the orginal footage is 625i over DV50, does it matter if I choose 720i or 1080p as output?)

We have done testing at the dealer and the HDMI output itself works just fine on my Io HD. The problem seems to be the cable and/or our plasma TV. We tried both HD and SD output over HDMI. Works just fine.

(There’s a bug in the Io HD not retaining SD HDMI output settings. It’ll be fixed in the coming driver update.)

I use analog input for capture over 625i. No HD. Composite output works fine. (Have not tested the component output, since there’s no need going back to Betacam. IoHD is used as capture device.)
Running Final Cut Pro (6.0.2) works fine to. It is just the HDMI output that does not work. Latest firmware in Aja (sept, 15) and using driver 6.0.1.

Should I uninstall and re-install the drivers?
I have double-checked the HDMI cable. Also tried different settings in HDMI setup (RGB/component, output 1 or 2, etc)

The Io firmware is updated (went just fine, I was prompted for firmware update when I launched the Mac Pro after installing the Io HD).

Not sure how drivers are handled in OS X – how do I uninstall them?

Having issues with no HDMI output after installing the new IoHD last Friday (see other post) I’m beginning to think it could be the firmware and/or driver? Aja states that one of the new features is 8 channel audio over HDMI. Not sure if it’s the driver (6.0.1) or the firmware or a combination. All downloaded from Aja. Everything else seems to work just fine with the Io HD. (although I miss the possibility to adjust analog audio gain prior to capture).
