DV25: Capture now works, capture using TC does not
Hi!
I have a Mac Pro 8-core with 6 GB RAM and FCS 2. (FCP 6.0.4).
Normally we use our IoHD for output and work with P2 media (DV50 PAL anamorphic).
But every now and then we capture DV25 and Betacam SP.
Beta works fine too, using the IoHD as capture device.
But here’s my problem:
When I want to capture DV25 using a Sony DSR-45P tape deck, I switch the IoHD off.
THen I start the Mac and set FCP to use FireWire PAL Anamorphic as capture setting and FireWire PAL as device control.
But as soon as I have set my in and out points and hit “Batch capture” I get an error: Dropped frames.
I can still do Capture now without problems. This is a little annoying…. what could be the problem here? Sure I can use Capture now, but I like to have total control of what I’m putting to my poor scratch disks… 🙂

Disconnect the Io and use the rear FireWire port on the computer. Any other devices connected?

The IoHD is connected to the rear FW800 port. The DSR-45P is connected to the rear FW400 port.
Then my FW disks are connected to my FW card installed in the Mac Pro.
I figured that the IoHD connected to the rear FW800 but powered off would not interfere with the DSR-45P. But I give it a try and simply remove the IoHD FW cable from the Mac.
No, still dropped frames with the IoHD disconnected from the Mac.

Rather than doing this piecemeal, please give the entire configuration, computer, drives, how everything’s connected, versions of FCP, QuickTime, OS, settings on the media, and settings you’re using in FCP. Exactly what you’re doing in the process and what happens when you do it. If there are error messages, please give exact information on the error messages. Trouble shooting remotely can only be done with precise information as we cannot see your system or your computer screen.

Computer: Mac Pro 2,8GHz 8-core, 6 GB RAM
OS: 10.5.5
QuickTime: 7.5.5
FCP: 6.0.4
Capture device: IoHD over FW800 at rear of the Mac Pro.
IoHD firmware: September 15, 2008
IoHD drivers: 6.0.1
Tape deck: Sony DSR45P over FW400 at rear of the Mac Pro.
Capture scratch disk: WD MyBook Studio edition over FW800 at installed FireWire card in the Mac Pro.Open FCP Log and Capture: Set Capture device FireWire PAL Anamorphic and machine control to FireWire PAL.
Running the tape works fine, setting in and outs too. When I hit “Batch capture” FCP cues the tape and tries twice to start capture. But then it says dropped frames and aborts.
