I crop somewhere between red and blue. I have found that there is a shimmering effect if I over do it, which is most noticeable where there is movement in the frame or I am panning.

I get a similar result if I over-stabilize an event.

Erik, I do get ‘it’. I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek, particularly with the use of the term lemmings. I was comparing our compulsion to upgrade SVP to that of a common myth, as explained below:

“Lemming Suicide Plunge” – where lemmings, apparently overcome by deep-rooted impulses, deliberately run over a cliff in their millions, to be dashed to their deaths on the rocks below, or to drown in the raging ocean. Indeed, this myth is now a metaphor for the behaviour of crowds of people who foolishly follow each other, lemming-like, regardless of the consequences.

I have used Ultimate S Quadcam for quite a number of live events, including weddings. Definitely worth the money!

I sync on audio, and have done so for up to 5 cameras. Unless the venue is very large, like 100’s of meters (where there can be a nanosecond delay if you are recording ambient audio from cameras placed in the distance), syncing using audio this way should be okay.

Brian, is your monitor colour graded (calibrated) correctly?

I can’t say my photos look dingy, but I do tend to touch up my photos to get the look close to what I want in photoshop, then in Vegas I usually add a bit of ‘boost mid-tones’ in saturation adjust, a tiny bit of contrast and a touch of colour curves to get that ‘pop’.

… and in 6 months time, SVP12 will be out, and like the Lemmings we are, we will part with another $139.95 of our heard earned cash to be on the bleeding edge.

I have stopped applying updates since 10c, which is the last stable version for my workflow and plug-ins. The OFX support has broken some third party plugins which the developer swears black and blue are NOT the problem. I now have an NVidia GT570 that I basically can’t get the benefit of, and SVP11 which is not stable enough for production work. All up, $600 I could have put into a replacement camera for my HDV work horses * sigh *.

I am still on 10c, although I have edited a project in 10c and rendered in SVP11 without any issue. Some 3rd party FX don’t work for anything later than 10c, hence why I am still on it.
