In need to do a multicam edit as stated (SVP11)

are there any tips/tricks to select which audio I want with which multicam take?

DO I have to go through the entire project and select the audio that I want, muting (lowering the vol) on the audio I don’t… underneath each video take? (I hope this makes sense)

You can set multicam editing to switch to the audio track of the take you’re selecting, if that’s what you mean.

I’m just open to any input/ideas.

Where is this setting found Angelo?

First, select all the video and audio tracks that you want in your multicamera project. Create your multicamera track, then enable multicamera editing. Then, under Tools > Multicamera, select “Edit Multicamera Audio with Video”.

Gilles, You made mention of making changes to tracks before you enter the multicam setup. You will find that many changes are undone/removed as you switch to multicam. Pan/Crops/etc/ are rudely discarded.

I don’t understand why this is.

My only workaround is to modify the tracks, then render to new tracks – then multicam. Very time consuming.

    I see.. I’ll give this a try.

First time doing multicam with v11. I have a feeling I’ll use the new feature to “divorce” the multicam track 🙂

    Thanks,

One way I overcame Vegas’ multicam limitation was to use Vasst’s Quadcam feature in the Ultimate S Pro plug-in. I am able to individually control FX and audio down to event level if I want to.

You can see all events and tracks as you have laid them down, and the plugin creates a new Master Video track. You can also get it to do the same for the audio, but I don’t bother.

The plugin has a few minor quirks in that you have to mute the lower video tracks as they bleed through during transitions, therefore leaving the Master Video track as the only enabled video track, and you have to move your titles to the top most track. Easy peasy. If you need to make changes, mute the Master Video track and unmute your other video tracks, make your changes, run the plug-in to regenerate the Master Video track, mute the other video tracks leaving the Master Video track visible below the titles track.

I know it sounds confusing, but give it a go with the free trial.

In terms of multicam audio, I usually mute whole audio tracks and duck the audio and control volume much the same way you do for the track(s) I want to use. If I am doing a musical/concert, I sometimes enable two audio tracks and deliberately make them out of sync by a couple of frames. I find it gives the audio a bit of a fuller, live feel. I am careful to check that the sound guy has not accidentally swapped the L-R channels on the XLR feeds to my cameras (it has happened).

My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10e (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

    Thanks for this Nigel,

I have ultimage Pro S but I never thought of using the quadcam feature as I’m only using 2 cameras.

    Are you using SVP v11?

I am still on 10c, although I have edited a project in 10c and rendered in SVP11 without any issue. Some 3rd party FX don’t work for anything later than 10c, hence why I am still on it.

    Hi Gilles,
Just to be clear-when you create a multicam track Vegas will use the audio from the camera that is selected. As recommended previously, you may want to create a mixed down, master audio track first. Then you can create your multicam track, render it and replace the multicam audio with the master.
