You could play with Colour Curves or give fbmn software’s Exposure plugin a go….

You can remove the grain with Neat Video

My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10e (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

  • One way I overcame Vegas’ multicam limitation was to use Vasst’s Quadcam feature in the Ultimate S Pro plug-in. I am able to individually control FX and audio down to event level if I want to.

You can see all events and tracks as you have laid them down, and the plugin creates a new Master Video track. You can also get it to do the same for the audio, but I don’t bother.

The plugin has a few minor quirks in that you have to mute the lower video tracks as they bleed through during transitions, therefore leaving the Master Video track as the only enabled video track, and you have to move your titles to the top most track. Easy peasy. If you need to make changes, mute the Master Video track and unmute your other video tracks, make your changes, run the plug-in to regenerate the Master Video track, mute the other video tracks leaving the Master Video track visible below the titles track.

I know it sounds confusing, but give it a go with the free trial.

In terms of multicam audio, I usually mute whole audio tracks and duck the audio and control volume much the same way you do for the track(s) I want to use. If I am doing a musical/concert, I sometimes enable two audio tracks and deliberately make them out of sync by a couple of frames. I find it gives the audio a bit of a fuller, live feel. I am careful to check that the sound guy has not accidentally swapped the L-R channels on the XLR feeds to my cameras (it has happened).

Have you tried rolling back/forward to an earlier/later of SVP11? With SVP10, I found using the 64 bit version got me across the line.

I have to admit I do all my paid work on SVP 10c, as I was having issues with 10e and plug-ins from fbmn software. I have a stable configuration and keep to it now.

I got a new video card specifically to take advantage of CUDA rendering in SVP 11, but what a disappointment that turned out to be. I had to DISABLE the acceleration to get the job done. wtf!?!

Whilst there are those on this forum who say that this is all part and parcel of progress, when it starts to impact your livelihood, that is a lame excuse (to accept substandard quality).

I haven’t heard of anyone building turn key systems for Vegas. There was an editing platform called Casablanca by Macrosystems, but has gone out of favour with a lot of editors. It has a niche following. The only contemporary consumer friendly NLE turnkey system I can think of is for Edius by Canopus Grass Valley, but you are looking at above $4,000 for a fully kitted out system.

Al, I too am sad to report I am exploring another competing NLE. May I know which one you are considering?

I did not know about an issue running 2 monitors off 1 video card. I have a GTX 570 as well, but the size of the beast makes it impossible to fit another card on my mobo. What mobo and case are you using? You must have one hefty PSU as well 🙂

I moved to Vegas from other NLE’s because it just worked! Since v9, it has been gradually going down hill for me. I used to not have 1 crash and the renders worked flawlessly. Now, it is a bit of a crap shoot. I have been able to muddle my way through all issues that have presented themselves to date, but I should not have to waste time and effort finding solutions that could be better spent creatively editing instead.

I have been paying for updates almost annually, in the hope the new one will be a more stable product, but I am beginning to feel duped: I think Sony must consider us cash cows (read: suckers).

Perhaps it is a video driver issue, or a chipset/motherboard issue. I am tempted to suggest to Sony to recommend a guaranteed hardware and system software spec like the days of old with Edius workstations. I guess this is where NLE’s such as FCP has the advantage of a closed development model enforced by Apple.

Frederic may be able to point you in the right direction. He is a developer who has worked with OFX and may be able to point you in the right direction.

Hopefully he will notice his name in the subject line.

Recording and capturing HDV should not be a problem in Vegas. As I said earlier, it should edit like butter. I am perplexed that you are experiencing audio and video artifacts only in HDV, but not DV.

As an aside, I got the Datavideo DN60 from B&H Photo. Even with International postage, it cost me around USD$500. I managed to get a used unit from B&H that as far as I can tell, is new apart from the packaging.

You might want to try using the video capture utility outside of Vegas called vidcap60.exe instead of running it from within Vegas. It is located in C:Program Files (x86)SonyVegas Pro 10.0

    Some Sony tips:

    Known Issues

To prevent dropped frames, do not use your computer for any other process while capturing or printing to tape.
Capturing to the same hard drive where your operating system is installed can result in dropped frames. If you have more than one drive, you can specify the target drive on the Disk Management tab of the Preferences dialog.
To prevent dropped frames, defragment the drive to which you will be capturing video.
You may want to temporarily disable your anti-virus software during capture. Don’t forget to re-enable it.
Not all analog capture cards are supported at this time. If you’re using an analog card, please obtain the latest WDM (Windows Driver Model) or VFW (Video for Windows) drivers from your hardware manufacturer.
If you experience audio and video synchronization problems when previewing from an analog device, choose Preview Audio from the Options menu to turn off audio preview. Use the Windows mixer to control the volume of the input to which your capture card’s audio output is connected.
If you experience degraded system performance, clear the Enable still image capture check box on the Capture tab of the Preferences dialog.

When key framing, have you tried right clicking on the marker and changing the motion to something else such as smooth? The default is linear.
