Where are the limits I can crop video and still have it hold up as HD for broadcast television?
Red, blue, or green or somewhere in between. I know someone is going to give me a percentage but I’d like just a general visual guide.
    Thanks

If you are starting with 1920×1080 footage you can crop down to 1280×720 and still have pixel for pixel quality only if your delivery is in 1280×720. I do it all the time.

I crop somewhere between red and blue. I have found that there is a shimmering effect if I over do it, which is most noticeable where there is movement in the frame or I am panning.

I get a similar result if I over-stabilize an event.
