Quite the contrary. Your system specs are important. Playback of content smoothly in windows media player is not a good indicator of your how your system should perform in Vegas. The amount of RAM, CPU, video card, disk i/o and type of data bus (USB 2.0/3.0, SATA I/II/III) will affect your editing experience. With Vegas, the most important determinant of editing performance is your CPU. You should be using at least a dual core CPU with at least 4 GB RAM if running Windows 7.

When I used Ultimate S to generate the Master Track, it applied color curves FX correctly to only the first cut in the Master Video track, but thereafter on the all the events/cuts that followed, the Color Curves FX had reverted to its default setting.
I have reported it to Vasst (John Rofrano) who in turn reported it to Sony.

The render times can be considered normal. If I use NeatVideo to clean up a 1 hour project, it does take 12 hours to render. Without Neatvideo it takes me a little over 1 hour to render a 1 hour project that has color curves, brightness and contrast and color correction. I seldom touch gamma, but I do suspect the zooming and 1 degree rotation is the cause for your long render times. Is the 1 degree rotation absolutely necessary? It does sound trivial and may be more pain than it is worth.
Mirrored drives are great for reading, but not optimal for simultaneous reading and writing. I run a mirrored pair (RAID 1) for storing/reading my source material, and write to a striped pair (RAID 0). My O/S is on a 5th drive. I am considering moving to RAID 5 using a NAS box. Overkill perhaps, but the price of storage is so cheap compared to what it used to be 5 years ago.

December 15, 2012 at 8:03 am in reply to: Curious if anyone has encountered this issueMulticam editing does require a beefy system. If you are using AVCHD source footage, it is highly compressed and requires even more horse power to preview than, say, DV footage. I regularly edit using up to 4 cameras. Even on my system the preview does stutter occasionally. I typically can only edit with the preview set to full.
Having lots of RAM (8+ GB recommended), a 64 bit O/S, NVIDIA GTX570 (or higher) video card and 64 bit windows 7 and a fast CPU (i7) and a separate HDD are necessary for a smooth editing experience.
If you are using a laptop, then you are mostly probably underpowered, and there is little you can do by way of an upgrade.

One way to minimise catastrophe is edit in smaller projects, in effect treating them as sub-projects, and then combine them in a ‘master’ project.
I recently did a high school end of year formal. I created a project for each major component such as the kids arriving in their cars, interview segments, speeches, dancing etc. When each was done, I then nested (imported) each of the veg files into a new master project. Even if I made minor changes to the sub-projects, when I next opened the master they were automatically updated in the master project.
I probably only had about 12 hours of footage, but I have done an ice skating project that probably would have had close to 50 hours of raw m2t and AVCHD footage using this technique. That did take about 2 minutes to load.
Your system specs are pretty close to mine. What other software, such as antivirus/firewall is running? It is recommended that you use an isolated machine for editing so that you can shutdown the antivirus/firewall software, and manually reactivate it only when you need to apply O/S or Vegas updates/

I paid $139.95. I wish Sony wouldn’t do this to its faithful 🙂

[Frank Stevn] “Any body knows how to to keep effects when doing multicamera editing in Vegas Pro 12”
It is possible to lay out multiple tracks and apply FX at event level. I use the Vasst Ultimate S Pro plug in to do exactly this. Whilst Stephen is correct in suggesting you apply the FX at media level, there may be occasions when you want to tweak at just the event level, which Ultimate S lets you do. Note that there is a bug that affects the Color Curve FX in SVP12, and results in the FX not being applied/copied to the Master Video track when you generate it. It has been reported to Sony. The Master Video track concept will make sense once you play with Ultimate S. The developer of the software, John Rofrano, is an active Cow Leader on this forum. There are lots of excellent video tutorials on the web for Ultimate S.
You can trial Ultimate S for free to see if it suits you. If you do a lot of multicam work, it is a great tool to have in your arsenal. I do mainly multicam work with up to 4 cameras and cannot live without it!

Unfortunately John is right. I do have one such USB to HDMI adapter which I use on my laptop when giving demonstrations, but only for that purpose. I have also used it at work on my work PC when I temporarily needed a third screen to go with my dual screen setup. The USB video card will not improve your editing experience.

December 8, 2012 at 7:13 am in reply to: V12 copy/paste with “Color Curves” not workingInteresting. I have reported a similar issue through Vasst that was affecting Ultimate S in Quadcam. In my case, the first event applied the color curves correctly on the Master video track, but events thereafter had color curves, but set back to default.
