Vegas Pro 12 – MC AVC longer render than V11???
Posted by Gilles Gagnon on December 12, 2012 at 9:19 pmI upgraded to SVP12 and it appears as though my Main Concept AVC mp4 renders take twice as long as they did in V11?
a 10 min clip used to take 5 min to render under V11, now it takes 10 min.
I use the same template as before and ensured GPU was set be used if available (it is available)
What am I doing wrong?
Cheers,

December 13, 2012 at 5:59 amThis is not straightforward, and I couldn’t figure it out. I think this could be a callout to SCS. But, there is a work through. It is thoroughly boring and life-drainingly obdurate . . . .
OK (deep breath)the MC AVC MP4 Default options for me:
VP11 by default the MC Template did Automatic selection. Render Time =27seconds
VP12 by default the MC Template did CPU selection. Render Time = 47 seconds
Now FORCING MC AVC MP4 options for me:
VP11 MC Template did Forced CPU Only. Render Time = 69 seconds
VP12 MC Template did CUDA If Available. Render Time = 27 seconds
What I can draw from this is that render speed for MC AVC MP4 “works” in both VP11 and VP12 and reflects the same 27 seconds – this is good.
However . . . .
The Default status varies between VP11 and VP12 and this tricked me. It would appear that this default status has been changed from VP11 to VP12. Now, basically this wouldn’t matter BUT, if using the Batch Render Script – which I previously DID use – this tripped me up as the Batch Render would pick the Default settings for VP11, if using Batch render in VP11, and then the Default settings if using VP12. This in turn would mean a QUICK Batch render in VP11 and a SLOWER Batch render in VP12!
Phew . . . . .

December 13, 2012 at 11:19 amThanks Graham!
I’m still confused though. I remember John (Rofrano) on this post stating that in svp11, using MC mp4 was the best method and it would render at about half the time of the source footage. That is, 60s footage would take 30s. Which was true.
Now in svp12, when I render using the MC mp4 template with GPU enabled, it takes twice as long as in svp11, that is 60 seconds of footage, takes 60 seconds (approx)
Any ideas anyone?

December 15, 2012 at 2:00 pmI haven’t tried that Nigel. Will do on the next render this coming week.
