December 14, 2012 at 7:19 pmYou can’t. Any effects you put on an event will be removed when expanding the multi-track editing. They always need to be put on afterwards.

December 14, 2012 at 7:43 pmApply the effects to the media. Then the f/x applies to all events made from this media.

It is possible to lay out multiple tracks and apply FX at event level. I use the Vasst Ultimate S Pro plug in to do exactly this. Whilst Stephen is correct in suggesting you apply the FX at media level, there may be occasions when you want to tweak at just the event level, which Ultimate S lets you do. Note that there is a bug that affects the Color Curve FX in SVP12, and results in the FX not being applied/copied to the Master Video track when you generate it. It has been reported to Sony. The Master Video track concept will make sense once you play with Ultimate S. The developer of the software, John Rofrano, is an active Cow Leader on this forum. There are lots of excellent video tutorials on the web for Ultimate S.
You can trial Ultimate S for free to see if it suits you. If you do a lot of multicam work, it is a great tool to have in your arsenal. I do mainly multicam work with up to 4 cameras and cannot live without it!
My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 11 (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

I’m not sure what you saying here. I did render a track yesterday that had curves applied to it with Vegas12 and the rendered file seemed really dark to me. Is that what you are referring to?

December 15, 2012 at 12:17 pmWhen I used Ultimate S to generate the Master Track, it applied color curves FX correctly to only the first cut in the Master Video track, but thereafter on the all the events/cuts that followed, the Color Curves FX had reverted to its default setting.
I have reported it to Vasst (John Rofrano) who in turn reported it to Sony.

December 21, 2013 at 1:35 amPure genius. Thanx a ton for saving me hours of frustration. What I like about Sony Vegas is it generally makes sense. So when I started applying f/x to individual edits on the multiclip, I started thinking, “This is crazy. There has to be a better way.” And sure enough, there is. Thank you!

December 21, 2013 at 3:26 pmRoger, you were mostly correct. The warning from Vegas about event-level F/X being lost with multicam just needs better explanation.
When you make a multicam track, Vegas makes new events on the multicam track (as takes), which is why the event level F/X is lost. Then Vegas deletes the original tracks. Why the warning text doesn’t suggest that f/x can be applied at the media level is a mystery. You’ll still lose any pan/crop unless you render it to new track before making it part of a multicam track.
I hate working with takes – too much brain work. Instead, I make a copy of my camera tracks, group them, mute the group, then collapse it. After that, I make the multicam track and use it normally. If after review I find something that can’t be easily fixed on the multicam track, I still have my backup tracks.
Of course in Vegas there’s almost always two or more ways to accomplish the same result.

December 21, 2013 at 5:02 pmI don’t use takes but sometimes it’s helpful. Once I’ve expanded the tracks and want to switch between takes, Grazie told me a great hot key to mute and unmute an event which is Ctrl? which lets me use another track take easily.
