February 20, 2014 at 11:20 pm in reply to: Changing from 32bit to 64bit, does this affect anything? You may find that dreaded out of memory errors no longer occur with 64 bit Vegas, as was the case for me.
You can still have 64 bit Vegas run alongside 32 bit Vegas up until Version 11. Vegas Pro 12 only is available in 64 bit.
As John said, any 3rd party plugins you use will need to be updated, and hopefully, they are available in 64 bit versions.

February 16, 2014 at 8:23 am in reply to: Terrible Vegas – black preview windows while adding more video filesThere is a known issue with Vegas importing multiple mov files from some sources. I recently tried to import a dozen or so mov files from an iPhone. Individually, or in small numbers, they imported fine, but after I had imported a larger quantity, my preview went black.
As I also have a version of Pinnacle Studio installed on my PC (for introducing beginners to editing), I imported the mov files into Pinnacle and exported them as m2t files. I then brought that back into Vegas.
I bit of a runaround, but I had no alternative nor the luxury of time to report it to Sony.

Stretch to fill minimises the appearance of the black bars you sometimes see on your TV screen, but it also has a mild softening effect on the overall video output, as I recently discovered in a post by John Rofrano. I used to tick it by default, but now leave it unchecked.

I, too, have hit this limitation with 32 bit Windows and 32 bit Vegas, and now exclusively edit in a 64 bit environment. I don’t use any fancy 3rd party plugins, so everything works for me.
If you have access to a 64 bit Windows 7 PC, you can install Vegas 11 Pro (64 bit version) on that machine. If you have got all your project assets and files in a single folder structure that you can copy to an external USB drive, you should be able to transfer entire projects onto the Windows 7 machine using simple copy and paste.
When you first open the project on the new PC, you might have to help Vegas find the first media file, and it should work out the rest by itself. You should not see the dreaded low on memory error. I have not seen it since I stop using Vegas Pro x32.
Please note that Vegas Pro 12 only comes in 64 bit.

Vincent, why don’t you use the Video4Youtube plugin from Vegasuar? It’s free.

January 21, 2014 at 3:10 am in reply to: rendering slows down as it goes, processor not usedDepending on how much Neat Video you are applying, it can slow things down. Vegas on my system does not hog all of the CPU, so what you are seeing is probably a bit of CPU throttling by the OS to keep things running cool, plus Windows leaving something in reserve. I have only seen my CPU hit close to 100% when I have been running 3 renders simultaneously

When you are in Vegas’s explorer window and select a file, you can usually so the audio and video properties just beneath the window. Some like frame size 1920 x 1080 and you also see some audio information. If the video portion is blank it usually means Vegas does not have a CODEC to display it.
What are these files you are trying to view? FRAPS? MP4/AVCHD? Have you ever been able to view these files in Vegas Explorer before? i.e. not Windows explorer.

[Angelo Mike] “https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/crg/4271111966.html”
This does not sound like a one man production. I know it says film maker in the brief, but the tasks do like you are going to need a support person to help you with your equipment, such as setting up the sound or lighting. Video productions typically involves carrying cameras, tripods, sound gear, a basic lighting kit, plus your own editing system to ingest and show the raw footage. And this is before you add your clothing and personal effects. In the FAQ, it also says, “Many applicants are U.S.-based, although this contract is not exclusively for U.S. companies.” They use the word companies. Whilst one person could be a ‘company’, this job does look substantial.
The filmmaker will be paid per deliverable based on the list of the four deliverables, regardless of the number of days or hours needed to complete them
I would be careful about this. If the client is super picky, you could be in for a LOT of unpaid work. They request 3 drafts which means 4 potential editing sessions for you. They also include this statement which I find concerning as it is quite subjective, “we reserve the right to not pay you if you turn in a sloppy product.”
The advertisement remains silent on who is developing the script. This is a significant body of work and can make or break a project.
We hope to start filming in February. The final films will be due the first week of April
Sounds like you have an uncertain start date but a firm end date, which could mean the difference of 2 weeks in the edit. It won’t matter to them if you start filming on Feb 25 through to Mar 6, but it will matter to you.
I don’t mean to be a naysayer, but this client sounds quite demanding and could be difficult to work with. I could be wrong.

Bob, I don’t believe that there is a solution to determine that. I had a similar problem a few years back. Some ‘technician’ once formatted my father’s portable HDD which contained his backup and used it to backup his system during a repair, apparently not noticing it contained files and that he had provided for restoration purposes. I was able to use a utility to recover all of his files (luckily the backup file table had not been overwritten AND the space had not been reused). The downside was that the file date information was reset to the current date. On the upside, I got 100% of his files back.

January 17, 2014 at 11:35 pm in reply to: Flicker / blinking problem in preview window after processor upgrade[paul cox] “Using Vegas Pro 12 with 2 NVidia cards – GTX 520 and 580”
May I ask why you are using 2 video cards? The 580 is a dual head video card. If you need 3 monitors, I would have matched the video cards. The problem may be with your video card drivers being slightly different.
[paul cox] “sometimes impossible to return to non preview on external monitor status”
Are you saying you cannot disable the external monitor? Which video card is connected to the 520 and which is connected to the 580? Have you tried running both monitors off the 580 only or removing the 520 from your system?
