I am very sorry I have not replied to this! I never had a notification. You put some real effort to help and I think you for that.
Yes it does help, to a large degree. But I now see that although I have read some very assertive statements about how to use the project Properties, I seriously need to work out my own road based on the computer I am using, among other things.s.
For instance if I try to set the PPs to be 1080 50p (my source, as is often suggested), I have no hope of getting smooth preview unless I use a very poor quality preview window setting.
I shall explore. It was the assertiveness of many tutes and other sources, without real reasons being given, that threw me.

I have now been forced to reinstall. I dropped my PC and banged up the HDD 🙁
I have not done it yet. It may well be the answer, but I have had to reinstall at least twice already to get Vegas running smoothly and I am getting a little wary of this.

OK. This is now a proper problem for me. It keeps happening, and now I cannot fix it by resetting the project properties.
I assume that nobody else has eve had this. Does anyone regularly do the RAM thing?

OK. I am a little puzzled. Was I wrong in thinking that the problem is that it persists, and not just that it appears? I took my clue from the OP saying they had to move the clip back to exactly where it came from to make it go away.
My main pint was that I do not see the persistence, just that for me it’s there as I move, then disappears.

Bleeding edge stuff all over again, for me. I have been doing midi/ digital audio for years…..since Cakewalk came on a…yes…_a_….floppy disc! I have seen it push that bleeding edge as it progressed in Audio as well as MIDI, but these days Audio romps home on the modern PC. Video still seems to be pushing things and the software is not up with audio for stability IMO.
Anyway, I posted in case anyone else struck it and maybe someone will remember.

More info. This is weird. IT… happened again. I started a new project to test something entirely unrelated. I used my standard 320*200 25i UFF Project Properties (small footprint when I want to create a RAM render). I dropped in a 1080p AVCHD file to edit. I t4ried to create a RAM render. Nothing.
SO. With no logic in mind I reset the Project Properties to match the source. 1920 1080p 50fps. I did a RAM render. It worked. But of course it gave me about 3 secinds’ worth with HD p etc.
I reset the PPs to 320/200 25i UFF…and the RAM render worked fine, giving me a minute of really smooth preview.
Trouble was I then repeated the process. New project, still at 320/200 25i, with a 50fps 1080p source…. and the render went fine.
SO ATM I have a workaround, AFAICS, but not a reason.

No expert, except at finding trouble….so maybe I can start help. Bout time I paid a little back in:)
My pet bugbear is 25p frame jitter, caused by refresh rate etc. I can’t watch many TV shows any more….so I know how it feels when you discover a fault in the process, and it really bugs you. Often I feel that most people do not notice this stuff
My source is 1980 1020 p.
Firstly, you say that the PC shows no artefacts. I can actually see a very faint halo around your post of the PC snapshot.
Secondly, I know to my annoyance that HDMI – connected full HD TV shows those artefacts anyway, even on PC-generated text etc. It shows around areas of very high contrast. Most video gets away with it, but your source is particularly demanding.
I also notice a fair bit of moire in the posted snapshots, but I am not sure if that is from the video, or jpeg compression when you took the snap. The frame size of the jpg is large and the file size small, so the moire could be that.If you reckon that the moire in the sky is caused by the snapshot settings, try to save the snapshot with a much higher jpg quality. Hope I am not throwing confusion in here…..
I took some of my video, and rendered using your settings. There are a couple of light poles and trees up against the sky. They show a faint version of your problem, less because the contrast is not so great and the background lighter, which somewhat disguises the effect. I tried a Sony AVCHD render as well, with similar settings, and the halo is still there. This is all on my PC so far.I also did an x264 render with an external codec, and the same result.
To simplify things, I left DVD Arch out of it, and simply played the files to my HDMI – connected TV, using only a USB thumb drive to transfer. The halos are there, in several different formats of render.
So I have no solutions, have learned a couple of things, and AFAICS have at least simplified the problem a little.
There is a tute somewhere on the Web about the BEST way to render in Vegas. IT involves using external rendering as well as internal.
Having ranted on, and provided no more than more problems, I am now going to explore other renders, to see if this can be at least partially overcome.
