    Thanks for the reply.

hmm…how come? I mean I can see that the bitrate will make a difference, but surely less pixels per frame should make a difference as well, given equal bitrate. (??)

hmmm..OK. I really reckon you need to let us know the exact steps you take, and again, post MediaInfo of one of the videos.

Also, maybe post up just a few (20-25) seconds of one of the videos, exactly as you post to Vimeo or put to your players, but shorter to save upload/download times so that others can have a look, or try playing on their machines.

Alternatively, place a link so that people can try to play the Vimeo version and see if its’ your machine, or what.

But steps and details would really help….seriously. Then we can maybe start delving better. I do not know much about all this but I am a great ferret. 🙂

Weird. I thought there were more posts in this thread…however.

Have you tried rendering _exactly_ as Vimeo requires, to see if that helps? I have had projects that worked in one player and not others, for no apparent reason, let alone an online site.

Does the mp4 render work in players on your own machine?

Given that the video works in WMV format, maybe try also posting on a Vimeo related forum? It sounds more like that end, if you are having trouble nowhere else. I looked up a few threads and others have had this problem, but in the past. Someone even commented that they downloaded the video from Vimeo and it worked on their PC.

I still reckon it will help anywhere if you lay it out step by step…menu, file, render, template group, template. Also maybe grab MediaInfo and post up the results it gives out. Somebody may be able to ID the problem from that.

As I said, forget Project Properties as far as rendering is concerned. They are all about the actual edit and mostly very little to do with the render, unless the render basically has no settings at all, as I said. I agree it feels weird, but it can aid in workflow when editing. In the end I just stopped fighting it and thought of Mother England. 🙂

Please lay out the exact steps you are taking to try to render. Step by step, naming the actual menu, template and so on. Then maybe somebody can help.

ANYWAY…..In each template, the is mostly and Audio tab. IF you click that tab you can usually ask to include Audio or not with a tick box.

I probably will not give you an answer, but I will ask the following questions:
    (1) Is this Studio or Pro?
    (2) What actual step by step path are you taking to try to create the video? By that I mean you have several choices of offerings from codec/format groups, when you render. Main Concept, Sony, etc.

And a comment. For most render outputs, project properties have NOTHING to do with the render result. They are all about the smoothest preview during edit, unless you want to take a frame snap….then the snap will be as per your project properties….this is something I feel needs fixing…however.

  • But it says Pro.
    Vegas Pro only?

    Glad you got it sorted.

BTW, I recently saw a youtube video about how to post the best video to YT. I feel that it actually gives very good results even for normal output. In fact I reckon it’s wasted on Youtube, which has a horrid system that seems to want to mangle whatever you give it! I believe they are trialling a new playback method that may help. Dunno….

It involves importing a codec group into Vegas, using that to export to uncompressed video, then using Handbrake and another codec to do the final compressed result. It does give a nice output if you are willing to put in the time.
    Here is the tute
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWMX5lSvEgY

The biggest problem is the HUGE intermediate file that comes out of Vegas to handbrake….GB/minute of film. As it’s only for transfer, storage is the main problem. Don’t even try to play it on most PCs.

I take the requirement to set the project properties correctly with a pinch of salt, because as far as I can see this does not affect output or override the render settings, but only the editing experience.

Also, for trials I passed over the Levels and stuff, until I worked out whether the exercise was worth it.

Vegas has changed a bit, as far as I can see, from the way the tute shows. So rather than use their exact method, starting at 6:15 into the tute, instead of File Render or Make Movie, use Tools->Render to a New Track. That will give you the same GUI they show. It does create a separate file on HDD. Just make sure you ask to Open Folder when render is complete, or at least make sure you know the folder name.

Also, at about 7:15 into the tute, they say it a bit wrong about Handbrake. The control shown is not in the General Tab any more, but a separate Output Files Tab.

Hope that’s more use than nuisance! 🙂
