Yes – this is from the docs:

In the Media section of the Viewer Options pop-up menu, choose one of the following:

Optimized/Original: Choose this option to use the optimized media (in the the Apple ProRes 422 format) for playback. If optimized media is not available, Final Cut Pro uses the original media for playback.

The library shows an optimized file as its original format. FCP X is using the optimized file. If you import an MP3 and optimize it FCP creates a wav file for instance. But it shows up in the event as an MP3.

Same here. I have reported it to Apple.

I have rarely seen “Repair Permissions” do anything obvious but I have seen it correct weird interface issues more than once. It’s worth a shot.

I’ve seen that with 10.0.9. Not yet with 10.1. Do you have latest driver?

You just need to tell CCC to backup into a folder on the backup drive and not directly to the root. Problem solved.

  • I have this happen quite a bit. It’s very annoying. What I do is hit Command 3 and then Command 2 to get back to the timeline. Command 2 alone usually doesn’t work. Of course sometimes everything works fine. Maybe it will get fixed in a week or two.

I have all my media on a RAID. I back the RAID up to a second large drive with Carbon Copy Cloner. I have been doing this since FCP X 10.0.0.

I’ve seen that happen when moving transitions around. I think it’s a “leftover”render file because deleting render files has always cured it for me.

I have Time Machine back up my system drive. I haven’t noticed any effect on system performance.

I use Carbon Copy Cloner to back up my media RAID however because I don’t necessarily want to back up every single file that is on my media drive. I use Event Manager X and backing up via Time Machine can cause redundant file backups, for instance if it backs up while a project is active and then again when the same project is inactive you get duplicate backups.

It’s not automatic but I prefer not to be on automatic when it comes to media files. At the end of the day I use Event Manager X to take all projects and events offline and then back up with CCC.
