I have been running an R4 for over two years with no issues. I know three others with R4’s. Two have had no problems in a year. One had to replace two drives in a year but had no downtime or lost material.

    Julian

First place your keyframes in the keyframe editor. Place them anywhere in the clip for now. Next, choose each keyframe and set it’s parameters. Now drag the keyframes to set the timing. You are done.

Say I want to go from full-screen to 50% in the upper left hand corner, hold for 2 seconds and then come back to full screen.

Size and position the clip at the hold position. Set 4 keyframes in the keyframe editor. Choose the first frame in the keyframe editor. In the inspector set X and Y to zero and scale to 100%. Choose the last frame in the keyframe editor and repeat. Position the keyframes for the correct timing in the keyframe editor. You’re done and you will not get any drift between the two hold keyframes.

I believe drift is caused when the two hold keyframes are set in between existing keyframes. Keyframing has to be fairly methodical. I learned that in Lightwave 3D.

    Hope this helps.

I try to hit -6 but with fairly heavy compression. That is what makes TV sound louder.

On a recent project I was having an issue where I couldn’t get two video clips that were stacked to end on the same frame. It was like they were offset from each other by half a frame. I kept fooling with it and it finally went away but it was weird. Wonder if it’s related because I’ve seen the OP’s problem sometimes also. It seems to resolve itself eventually but it can be annoying.

Correct – having access to the layers in FCP X can be very convenient under certain circumstances. The info you gave on the TIFF files is useful too. Thanks

    Hi Andreas

Layered TIFF doesn’t work for me. Unless I am doing something wrong, when I import a layered TIFF into FCP X I cannot access the individual layers like I can with a layered PSD.

Match up the start point of the audio clip and the video clip and then re-time the video to the length of the audio track. Since drift is usually fairly linear this will typically work and can be done fairly quickly. If you have one continuous track of audio and one of video of the entire event try it on that. I have done this many times successfully.

I can’t replicate your compound clip problem. If I set levels, compound and then copy the compound into another project the levels are consistent.

I would edit the interview in a project and then compound the completed edit and copy/paste into the other projects.

As far as your limiter question, you should be adjusting “gain” which goes down to -20. Where you set that depends on what the level of the audio is in the first place. There can be interaction between the different settings.

Post some sample frames. That would help in determining where the issues really are. I have had people post that something doesn’t work and found that they were looking in the wrong place for the answer.
