Strange one, I would say check your footage interpretation, perhaps try conforming the footage (just to see if it solves the problem) https://rarevision.com/5dtorgb/

Also found this Ppro forum thread that might help:
    https://forums.adobe.com/message/5073904

Sometime it takes a while for pro to update its codecs, if symptoms persist, perhaps contact adobe supoort (although free up some time to do this as it can take a while to get through)

  • When you say colour values, do you mean RGB digits, or hex code etc? The pipette tool in the character window (or a pipette anywhere else in ae) will do that for you.

WIth regard to green spill and poorly lit footage, this is one of the bug bears of compositors, theres not a great deal you can do about it if its really bad. The keylight manual is a good place to start https://www.thefoundry.co.uk/support/user-guides#keylight.

Perhaps post some screen grabs so we can see your footage and set your expectations of how far you can go with the key? With regard to tutorials just google it, there are stacks, is assume you are familiar with the video co-pilot basic keying videos? Again a good starting block.

October 30, 2013 at 9:04 am in reply to: AE Z depth camera move creating unwanted transparency

Thanks Brett – So glad you guys have posted on here, I too am having these issues, but was concerned it was a “why is this only happening to me’ situation!

I have attached a screen grab (uuggghh its too early for christmas!).

All the bells are swinging left to right with a script driving the animation, but only when the camera pulls back in z-space does the transparency occur, and only in the render, not ram preview.

I did predict it could be due to all layers being on the same z-depth but i moved them forward by 4 pixels and did another render last night and its still there. My last and only hope is to remove motion blur and see if that helps.

Jeff how did you get on in the end?

Thanks so much for your response.
Thats exactly what I was getting at, I have an edited sequence in premiere, I have sent it to AE through D/L, added titles etc in AE and then sent it back to premier again using D/L. I was hoping I could drag the linked AE sequence over top of the original premiere edit in order to keep the sound etc in place.
Is this possible or am I “@rse about face” to coin a term?

Ok, well (im not a trekky BTW) check out the 2009 star trek movie, pretty much every shot has a lense flare in it. If you search the effects panel for flare you should get the stock AE plugin but also check out Optical Flares from kramer, it costs but is the next level up for the ae standards.

Yeah looks like the hand and device are still images that have been keyed/masked out, the finger is the same i think, just animated.

If you want to get a more fluid look to it, try shooting video footage of the finger moving and the gestures you need against a green screen and layering over the top of the still images.

I think its the same way apple do their adverts for ipad/phone with swipe gestures etc.

    So layers…

Top – Animation/Video of (just) finger swiping (e.g. no BG, just green screen)
Next – footage to go on the screen of the device
    Next – Hand & Device
    Bottom Layer – Backplate/Colour

There are a few other ways of doing it (e.g. sticking green square on device screen) but i think the above method will work best.

  • Cool thanks so much for taking a look, such a vast bit of software, wasn’t aware of that!
I will give it a go a post some results!
    Thanks again

    Hi Ken
Do you mean like a lens flare? Or an illuminated outline of the person?
Can you link to any examples?

Using the “screen” layer blending mode should remove all black.

Thanks Both, its great to have such knowledge available.
I just clicked on the after effects forum but have now seen the basics below it! Will check that before posting next time.
I have played a little with finesse since i posted (it took a while for my post to be approved) It helps a little but that wash out is still there, with footage like this im not going to get it looking completely natural, i can see its going to be a weekend of tweaking!
Thanks for the tutorial & podcast links i will have a go at them and get back to you with an update on my progress in a few days.
    Have a great weekend
    Thanks again
    Nick
