    Yeah looks like the hand and device are still images that have been keyed/masked out, the finger is the same i think, just animated.

    If you want to get a more fluid look to it, try shooting video footage of the finger moving and the gestures you need against a green screen and layering over the top of the still images.

    I think its the same way apple do their adverts for ipad/phone with swipe gestures etc.

    So layers…

    Top – Animation/Video of (just) finger swiping (e.g. no BG, just green screen)
    Next – footage to go on the screen of the device
    Next – Hand & Device
    Bottom Layer – Backplate/Colour

    There are a few other ways of doing it (e.g. sticking green square on device screen) but i think the above method will work best.
