Oh, for forum stickies! I’m not actually diehard about it, but if there was ever a topic that needed a sticky in this forum, this would be it. Andy’s answer is a solid summation. Maybe someday we’ll have something like Shane’s Stock Answers. Those were very helpful to me when I was getting up to speed in FCP7-land.

I was wondering if the toolbar appeared thinner because of the display, but I decided to go with it being part of the general minimizing of chrome and open spaces. Even on a 4K monitor, wouldn’t there be proportional consistency (rounded corners in relation to thumbnail size)?
The absence of the timeline index also suggested that this isn’t just a misinterpreted viewing of the current interface. My eyes aren’t good enough to tell if they’ve moved the timeline index to join the other buttons on the right of the toolbar. Whatever they did with it, I hope it remains easily accessible.

I was intrigued by the photo that Oliver posted yesterday.
Definitely some similarities. Everything is squarer. Chrome and extra space is reduced all around–the toolbar certainly looks thinner.
If this is where FCPX is headed, I like it. It tightens everything up, de-bubble-izes it a bit.

Even further down the tangent line: I recently picked up an AppleTV at a tag sale (score!) and other than airplay, I prefer my Roku in almost every way. I think that when Apple opens up for apps on the AppleTV, it’s be pretty great. WWDC is as good a place as any to announce that.

I see that this particular case as been resolved and there are number of good tips on getting good audio to begin with, particularly with DSLRs.
I wanted to pipe in and say that I’m not fond of the noise reduction in FCPX, nor did I like it in Soundtrack.
In my limited experiences, I’ve been very impressed with Izotope RX, but it is not inexpensive. If you can cover the cost, I consider it a very worthwhile investment. I’m also impressed with the capabilities within the free and open-source Audacity.

I’ve never been fond of the noise reduction capabilities of FCP or Soundtrack. I’ve found the noise reduction in Audacity to be substantially better and it’s free to boot! Even better is Izotope RX, but that’s priced well above free.

That’s great to hear. On the MacRumors forum a member alluded to the idea that working with AVCHD under Mountain Lion is much improved. I’m installing it tonight on my MBP. Looking forward to playing with it.

Thanks, Michael! I didn’t know about the nested “Shared Items” folder. I usually export to an exports folder that I process from.
I didn’t expect FCPX to know what type of Vimeo account I had, but I’d read (unofficial) reports that FCPX would cap the file size for Vimeo’s stock upload sizes. Apparently not.
The file came out to be 524.3MB or about 29MB over the initial estimate. Understandable that that happens, but it makes the share function less useful, particularly without any available adjustments.

A great program and free to boot. One of the first things I installed when I got my 2011 MBP. I tend to force the computer to use the integrated only when on battery (it’s amazing how many non-graphics apps use the discrete graphics card.). My biggest problem has been remember to switch it when running graphics/editing programs.
