  • trying to get rid of audio buzz in FCPX

I imported some clips of a talk, and checked the boxes for it to automatically correct the audio and video. The general background hum is gone, and it is much more balanced (it was loud and soft when he turned his head towards and away from the mike) but there is a buzz in one place. A friend uses FCP 7 studio, and gets that out by sampling it and roundtripping it to Soundtrack. I’m using FCP X, and have not found how to do that. Anyone have ideas?

    Thanks, Kathryn

Try isolating the buzz with the Channel EQ filter. You can find it in Audio Filters.

And if you decide you want to do it the way you’re accustomed to, you can easily just export your timeline as audio only, import that into soundtrack pro or any other audio editor – make your corrections the way yore used to working and then = simply re-import the corrected audio back into X – essentially working exactly the way you’re used ton.

Just because round tripping isn’t as “automatic” doesn’t mean it’s can’t be effectively done.

    FWIW.

Thank you for the responses. I looked at the channel eq feature, but was not very successful at isolating it. I’ll try exporting it to Audacity and see how that turns out.

I’ve never been fond of the noise reduction capabilities of FCP or Soundtrack. I’ve found the noise reduction in Audacity to be substantially better and it’s free to boot! Even better is Izotope RX, but that’s priced well above free.
