As the others noted, you should be fine. 10.1 won’t update events/projects unless you tell it to and you can manage that easily enough. 10.0.x won’t see the libraries because they don’t fit the rigid event/project folder structure.
But, I’ve been thinking about something similar: how to run 10.0.9 and 10.1 on the same system. You’re in the clear because you’re dual-booting; I’d like to keep both on without having to dual-boot. I don’t know if having both apps in one account would work because of preference file differences, but perhaps they could be setup up at the account level. Different than your issue, but something I’m interested in playing with.

Why stay on FCPX 10.0.4? I’ve been using 10.0.9 just fine on 10.6.8. (That’s some number jumble. Wait ’til I add my IP address.) There’ve been some nice additions and fixes in the subsequent (pre-10.1) updates.

I am using a late 2013 15″ rMBP w/ discrete GPU. I did a quick test the other day to confirm that this does exist. I connected to a HDTV via HDMI out. in FCPX 10.1 preferences you’ll see the HDTV listed in the A/V output. Then, under the Window dropdown menu, toggle A/V output. That will switch the HDMI out from a 2nd screen to a full-screen video out.
So, in principle, it works. I didn’t have the opportunity to test it and see how well it actually performs or looks.

I popped in to ask this very question. As an access center, we are trying to figure out how to roll out the upgrade to our users. Definitely going to have to do a workshop on the new features/workflows, but the rollout of installation on the computers is a whole ‘nother ball of tasks.
If 10.0.9 and 10.1 can co-exist on a computer it would be fantastic. I’m not worried about project compatibility as those are stored on external drives/server. I don’t have time to experiment this week, but if the answer comes before I can, great!

It’s a tough decision, but I think a right one. I have seen very good discussion groups (online and in meatspace) that have been destroyed by the persistent negative behavior of just one person, including a listserv that I managed and waited too long on taking proper action. I’m an advocate for free and open speech, but there’s a point at which one person’s speech completely tramples on the ability for others to speak. It was clear to me that this point was being reached here.
I appreciate this forum and the tough tasks of moderators like Tim. Thanks for acting on it and in your inimitable and humorous manner.
Back to my 10.1 anticipation.

December is here and I had the same thought. Came here and sure enough, here’s your conversation starter.
Tomorrow and the 10th both seem reasonable given Apple’s release history and the nature of Holiday business. I’m betting on the 10th, just so my antici….pation can be extended.
While I’ll drool over the Mac Pro, it’s not in my near future (though I am typing this on a lovely new work-supplied rMBP). What the FCPX update/upgrade holds in store is what I am excited for.

Replying for a bit of future reference.
I just encountered the same problem with an LG 2242T and an Acer monitor as well (which gave me less info). I did find out that if I set the MCS-8M to 720 instead of 1080, then the monitors will recognize it. Obviously not ideal. In any event, I’ve only been playing with it for an hour, so when I find out more, I will post it here.
Next, on to getting my MBP and the DVI in to work.
