this is a function that is obviously useful.
it’d be a shame if it wasn’t in other NLEs.i did a bit of a re-cap on AVID a while back, and was disappointed about a few essential functions that just weren’t available, mainly the very limited number of assignable shortcuts.
i know it’s got great things that FCP doesn’t, but i’ll miss FCP too.

if you specify ANY setting, even one that exactly matches your source,
you will get a self-contained file.the trick is to use the “Same Settings” menu item.
you do realise that handing over a reference file to anyone else is a rather risky situation.
are you giving them the entire drive, so the reference move will have the correct files to refer to?
is there a problem with using your larger self-contained file?nick

YES: Sequence Settings> Render Control > un-check Filtersthere could also be an XML solution,
BUT you’d very likely lose any master / affiliate relationships -
it was the alpha channel!

pretty sure that doesn’t exist in the default keyboard layout.
open the keyboard layout window (option H) and roll your own.
use the search window to find the function,
select the one you want, and type your desired shortcut.nick

a simple approach would be to dupe the bg onto a track above both graphics and crop to the edge of the V3 clip.

yes, that is normal.
you need to save, close the project,
then QUIT FCP before your system will eject the drives.nick

sounds like you are missing a font from your system that was used in the edit.
if a font is not present, FCP will default to one that is.to find out what font was used initially,
you might be able to open the project file in text edit, and do a search for “font”or call the original editor, if you have inherited this project.

you might be able to go into your A/V settings in FCP,
duplicate an existing BM pre-set and edit it to your liking.or just use a 50i setting.

Resolve is also a very good choice.
it also gives you the options of masking & burnt-in metadata if required,
plus it’ll sync to audio if you have accurate TC.like Mpeg Streamclip, it’s free.
