as to why it’s desigend like that, i dont really know.
but it is, and it hasnt changed in FCP4.

FCP4 HAS changed Shift F to “reveal in browser” which might help you a bit.
(option Apple F is now reaveal source clip)

but rather than updating, or hunting for the clip in hte browser,

quickly drag the clip from the viewer to the browser.
open it again in the viewer, and Apple U.

i’ve always got a “work” bin in the browser just for doing things like this.

what about ilegal characters in your project name.. you know, like forward slash (/) ?

    that’ll cause you problems.

Michael, are you working with DV?
when i stumbled on that “no audo WITHOUT video” issue i thought it was because i was using DV,
and they (A+V) didnt like being seperated?

i had success with my last big MM’s slow-mos.

i;d prepared for problems by tracking down all the slo-mo shots, copying them to the end of the timeline,
    and removing ther speed attibutes.

i figuered if something went wrong with the speed mod versions in the cut, i;d have the frames i needed coutesey of these.
(i had a very small window for capturing/checking before losing the deck)

    but nothing went wrong.
all speed mods came out perfect.
now maybe it was because they were fairly simple (constant reate speed mods, no extreme %s, and not too many of them)
or MAYBE it was because i had the 100% versions in there as well…
maybe that ensured i captured the correct portion of the shos??

i’d do it again, though this IS suposed to be fixed in FCP5

  • if i were you, i’d simply capture the 32k tapes at 48.
or capture one, and see if you get any problems.
    chances are you wont.

i dont knbow why you are getting duration discrepancies, but as loing as you dont have to render the picture, i guess the frame-rate is true.
i’ve had a slightly similar experience trying to export 44.1k audio out to 48k.
the end of the track was getting chopped off.
i used itunes in the end.

    you could try that….
batch export as QTMovies, audio only, same settings, dont use in/outs
bring into iTunes, convert to 48k AIFFs

but as i said, i’d be tempted just capture the tapes again at 48.

    cheers,

    really? that’s a drag.
do you think that holds for the Sony HDV deck (HVR-M10U.. how can i ever remember that?!)

this is a good topic for the lafcpug FCP5 nite.

April 22, 2005 at 11:52 pm in reply to: Avid to Final Cut Keyboard setup??

You’ll lose a lot of FCP functionalaity if you map the avid keyboard.

FCP uses tools, which can all be summoned with top-level keystrokes.
    A for arrow,
    R for roll/ripple, etc

also FCP’s keyboard goes deep: it really uses modifiers.

case in point: in and out.

    they’re on i & o, of course,

but REMOVE in/out is OPTION i and OPTION o

GOTO in/out is SHIFT i and SHIFT o

leaving 4 keys free for other things.

if you;re coming from an avid bg, i’d strongly recomend getting a FCP keyboard, or set of key-caps.

    cheers,

is your tape tail out, perhaps?
    ooh.. old film term..
is your tape parked at the END of the tape, past the TC?

otherwise try trashing your preferences, as outlined here:

April 22, 2005 at 3:56 am in reply to: why does my audio capture at 48.0001K?

i think it could also happen if you “Capture Now” rather than log and capture.
