the list of markers thing works in the viewer and canvas windows, too.
sort of.used to be you could right or control click in the scrubbing area – that makes sen.
now you have to right or control click in the Timecode field to get the list of markers.so you can load you sequence into the viewer, and search your markers then edit into the timeline.
with a LOT of markers, however, i actually prefer to simply use the find tool.
i find it quicker than reading thru the long list.have to agree w everyone: FCP Markers are LAME.
cant search them in the browser.
can add them to multiclips (last time i tried, they disappeared after switching angles).nick

September 23, 2007 at 2:33 am in reply to: Nesting issues: how do we fix what we’ve done wrong?oh, and the trick to editing from selects sequences loaded in the viewer:
instead of plain old F9 and F10 for insert and overwrite, which will edit a NESTED SEQUENCE to the timeline
APPLE F9 and F10 will edit across the sequence CONTENTS.cheers,

September 23, 2007 at 2:29 am in reply to: Nesting issues: how do we fix what we’ve done wrong?here is how to De-Nest:
the trick is you open the nest from the timeline into the viewer.
from there, you can make a subclip.
a new nested seq appears in the browser TRIMMED TO JUST THE SECTION USED.
you then Apple-drag that back to the timeline.this is the ONLY way i know how to do this.
and here’s a real gotcha:
the new sub-nest only folows the duration of the picture,
so if you have split edits, you have to do picture in one pass, then sound in another.
(for your project, Kurt, if you have loots of audio in there, too : that’s another thing you need to tidy up.
export it all as one simple QTMovie, audio only and re-import)here is how you would do a long project – PICTURE ONLY!
make a copy of the sequence,’
delete all the audio
make a new bin in the browser, open it in it;s own tab,(option double click on it)
put the copied sequence in it
add some asterisks to it so it’s name sits at the top.open the first clip into the viewer
Apple U to make a sequence subclip or “sub-nest”
the new trimmed sequence subclip appears in the browser in the new bin.Apple 1 to go back to the viewer.
down arrow to take you to the next clip,
Apple U again.each new sub-nest gets labelled “Sequence Name – subclip” then Sequence Name – subclip1″ etc.
they’re sequentially numbered, so they sort in the original orderdon’t do it for the whole timeline.
just do twenty or so for starters.
(heck, do three for starters, then build up to twenty or so. take it further if you feel you can
NB: you’d have to stop a series when you come to a gap in the timeline)the trick to apple dragging a group:
select,
drag from browser,
THEN hold Appledrop them on a track above the nested versions.
the duration’s should tell you if you’ve got them lined up or not.
double check that close up before you do the next groupthen, i’d probably triple check before handing it over:
either by toggling visibility,
or possibly simpler:
re-sizing each track to a left/right box situation.cheers,

September 21, 2007 at 8:52 am in reply to: Any tricks to reconnect relocated reference movies? – PLEASE HELP!“I’m wondering though…. we are capturing media using capture now, and then we are creating multiclip sequences, but the synch seems unreliable. Do you know why that is?”
i haven’t worked with multiclip sequences,
BUT i have had a little bit of contact with Multiclips, (creating and working with hundreds each day for 4 months on a feature film) and i can tell you they are just plain buggy.
keep them very simple and they work
otherwise…how do you sync for a multiclip seq?
via TC or Aux TC?
i found that the multis i made with Aux TC didn’t behave very well, and would have sync issues.
Multis made via in point worked best.i have no idea why a simple export is throwing your sync out either.
that’s really weird,
but how about this:
export as a ref movie,
bring that back into FCP, and export again as self contained.
or
Export as ref move,
open in QT or Compressor and export as whatever codec you need.that could lock it in.

personally i prefer to make DVD copies.
i suspect they’ll last longest than a hard drive.or you can be belts and braces about the whole thing and have both.

“Is there an equivalent to hitting A or S in Protools?”
i dont blade, or control v,
i mark in,
go to next cut,
go back one frame,
mark out.sounds like a lot, of moves, doesn’t it?
but i’ve done it so often it;s practically one keystroke for me.
left hand on io
right on arrows
i, down, right, othen delete or shift delete.
alternatively i remember Ralph Fairwether requesting that the Blade tool could toggle to the selection tool with Option, or similar.
great idea, of course,
but hasn’t happened yet…nick

depends on the nature of the project,
but the best and simplest overall approach is:cast off old sequences.
copy and paste them into another project.keeping your rushes in one project, and your cuts in another can work,
but you lose Master / Affiliate relationships on your clips.
and the ability to match back to the bin.if you have the sort of project that can be split neatly into sections,
then the way to do that is to “Save-as” your project to a “pt1” and then save-as again to a “pt2”, (or whatever terminology works for you)
then open them both and delete what you dont need from each.if you try to copy/paste bins & sequnces from one project into another you again loose master/afiliate relationships between browser clips and sequence clips.

no, unfortunately.
you can do a long roll edit to clear a bunch of them, but it;s hardly automatic.nick

subclips might cause problems,
but then again, they are better behaved than they used to be,
and what can you do about it?if it’s a movie you want it broken down into slates & takes.
if the Toronto Lab only captured whole tapes, and didn’t break them down for you,
you’ll have to use subclips.the last time i had weird subclip/reconect problems was back in FCP4.5, i think
however, speed changes could still be problematic.
i cant really say, i m just trying to think of situations to look out for.
it would be a healthy attitude to NOT expect the reconnect to happen instantly.
who knows, it could take a day of checking and tweaking to make sure everything is ok.you probably know, but FCP uses the FILE NAME to connect.
it cant look inside files and find reel# & TC like avid.so don’t go changing those File Names, unless you tell the Toronto people about it, and get them to do exactly as you do.
riskyhowever, call the subclips whatever you like.
good luck,

look in the “view” menu: 3rd little pull-down menu at the top of the canvas.
somehow* it;s been set to something other than RGB.
set it back to RGB, and all should be fine*Shift W toggles the 3 RGB / Alpha modes
hope that’s it,
