do a rough rotoscope around the people….
or crunch the colors so you can pull a good key, and use the keylight as a matte layer.

he’s right — I forgot to include that.
it’ll bring in your camera. so you can do 3d + 2d animation.

    Thanks!

I know how to get the textures out but re-applying them and rendering was where I was lost. Very much appreciated.

Group all the Objects you want as different layers and parent them to Null objects — as long as it doesn’t interfere with the scene. I do this so I can label the null ” wheel layer ” and so on. Then add compositing tags to each layer and set the object buffer — in your situation you’ll need to make 4 separate object buffers for each layer.

Go into your render settings and set multipass — then make sure it sends out an ‘object buffer’ multipass layer. This isn’t going to be JUST the wheels — it is going to be an alpha channel of JUST the wheels that you’ll stencil over the entire quicktime. Make sure you export out an AE file.

You’ll need to pre-comp all the multipass layers on the main quicktime. It takes a little longer to render each frame with the mattes, but it looks cool. The ae file will bring in a camera. I noticed that anything longer than 15seconds bogs down a dual 2.7 w/4gigs of ram (they bought me that…nice compy). When you import your c4d file into ae have patience. If you get the whirlie or hourglass go watch tv for a few minutes — it’ll eventually import.

Check out your manual too…it explains the object buffer bit….

    particular
    particle illusion
    panopticum fire
fractal noise with an animated mask and some glow features

or just get a can of wd-40 and a green screen. light a match, spray it. film it (stongly recommend HD…you need the most pixels as possible). other things work too, you catch my drift. Don’t spray it for longer than a few seconds or the flame could go back into the can and blow up in your face. BE CAREFUL. If the green screen doesn’t work right shoot it on solid black and use the appropriate matte. BELIEF.com used fireworks on a solid black background for some of their stuff, and it came out very well. Don’t forget your lensflare and other color effects to simulate the color of the flame around onto other objects.

I’d use particular just because I’m comfortable with it — and I don’t have access to a studio where I could create mock-flamethrowers. Its up to you though. Is it a moving firebreathing or a still firebreathing?

December 8, 2005 at 9:03 pm in reply to: Syntheyes dirrect into AE?

the problem is that my zoom is off the wall…slightly keyframed. But the problem is because it is so ZOOMED, any movement of the camera drastically moves what is in the field of view. What is the best way to ae? Through the ma or to the clipboard, and if we go to the clipboard we just paste it to a camera correct? or is there anyway to copy the 2d motion data and set it to an object?

    sorenson squeeze…
or when you export it use a different compression setting.
Sorenson or sorenson 3 is good. cut your frame rate if it becomes and issue — goin from 15 to 30fps will DRASTICALLY cut your file size but kill your quality. Compression is an art within itself…

I’ve had problems importing camera data to ae from syntheye — i’ve been meanin to post but i haven’t had the time. It seems that when I import through .ma my camera’s zoom is keyframed…and everything kind of goes to hell. I’m tracking scenes from the wizard of oz. I get the square comp and everything — but I can’t get it to sit right.
