  • You can spin the camera around objects — and also use it to smooth out easy ease frames, which act stupid sometimes (well I’ll go out on a limb and say most of the time when you go over 2 keyframes…that strange keyframe compensation it insists on doing) Example — you have a logo with lots of 3d layers around it in space, and you want to spin around it in a circle and move towards it — kind of like a spiral path inward.

You parent the camera which is at 0,0,-300 to the null which is at 0,0,0, and spin the null on its y axis. Dolly the camera in. The results are pretty cool and its easier than spinning the ENITRE SCENE. You cannot achieve this by just using the C button and keyframing.

Try keyframing the y rotation and the x ORIENTATION instead.
If that doesn’t work, parent it to 2 nulls in the exact same spot.

    Null 1 Y Rotation keyframed
Null 2 X Rotation keyframed (parented to Null 1)
    Camera (parented to Null 2)

Output an alpha channel and tell whatever you’re working with afterwards to use it as a luma matte.

use CC SPHERE in the production bundle. (under PERSPECTIVE)
If you want to make it all 3d, just use some expressions to rotate the ball with the camera.

I think it was done in 3d, with a photograph mapped to the floor plane, and as commented earlier sweep nurbs (or loft? I don’t know, in cinema it looks like a black hole), but post work had to have been done in it b/c of the nice vignetting.

OR you could have just animated it in 3d space, alpha channel for the growing strokes, exported the camera, exported multipass shadows, and composited the floor in AFX.

Afx is nice, but it can’t really do things like that easily — I’m thinking maybe an avid invigorator user may be able to make it happen, but it will take a little while to wrap your head around it and it’ll take a thousand years to render. I know out of C4d it wouldn’t take all that long, because it is pretty simple animation.

    It was strange —

We consolidated and just re-opened the avid project on the Adrenaline. The video wasn’t lining up, and some of the video was actually running at double speed. There were no issues with the audio timeline, it imported perfectly. We had no continuity, which is why it is tough isolating the problem. We wound up exporting quicktime movies and .omf audio sequences. This is a ghetto approach, but we are still trying to figure out the problem.

thanks again for your help Mike
