  • Camera Animation + null: I’m missing something, it’s useless …

I’m trying, reading tutorials, watching at demo files, but still haven’t found why use the null object to animate a camera. Don’t understand what’s the advantage over animate simply and directly the camera using the C tools: it’s so quick and fast …
But, as often happens, one can missing something: now, what am I missing?
the only case I’ve found useful using a null is when it’s controlled by sliders and, in that case, it’s possible to add expression to simulate for example jagged movement and so on …
Now, a part of expressions, any other advantage?

You can spin the camera around objects — and also use it to smooth out easy ease frames, which act stupid sometimes (well I’ll go out on a limb and say most of the time when you go over 2 keyframes…that strange keyframe compensation it insists on doing) Example — you have a logo with lots of 3d layers around it in space, and you want to spin around it in a circle and move towards it — kind of like a spiral path inward.

You parent the camera which is at 0,0,-300 to the null which is at 0,0,0, and spin the null on its y axis. Dolly the camera in. The results are pretty cool and its easier than spinning the ENITRE SCENE. You cannot achieve this by just using the C button and keyframing.

Type some words and apply the preset animation “Raining Characters in”, then position them the way you want. Apply “Echo” and play with it.
Create many different layers with these effects each using different characters, position and size.

If you need it, here is a link for The Matrix font. https://www.netfontes.com.br/search.php/query_matrix_1.htm

    I hope it helps.

Yes, I forget to mention the flying around objects case … that’s true, another good example where using nulls is the right choice.
    Thanks for the feedback Nicholastoth.
