  • Well if you are able to split or loop through the signal to your program monitor you could send that signal to to a second pc with a capture card/device and use a streaming service like ustream. If you can get an hdmi feed you could use this standalone device made for livestream and not use a second computer at all. Either way it would not impact your edit machine performance at all.

Is this new gopro protune footage? I’ve heard that the way they use the higher bitrate codec is pretty inefficient on the CPU for decoding protune, if that’s the case it might be best to convert the gopro footage.

This one is new but might be worth a look at Sony NEX-EA50EH

It’s got an SLR size sensor so you will decent low-light performance since you are primary uses will be indoors, and you should be able to get a pleasing shallow depth-of-field look for interviews.
It is one of the first large sensor cameras to ship with a motorized zoom lens.
It has XLR inputs to get your line audio and/or interview mics
HDMI/componen/composite out for hooking into switchers/screens/recorders

If you want to research other cameras with pricing and reviews I suggest browsing bhphoto’s online store, they carry pretty much all popular models and usually have a good amount of reviews for each one.

I use both, and it is nice that CS6 is basically exactly the same across platforms. Not having prores export can be a pain if you don’t have access to a mac, but if you plan to keep your mac I see no real issue there. many plugin licenses are now cross-platform, I use red giant mojo on my PC tower and my macbook pro, as well as element 3d for after effects on both.

If you have a limited budget and you want to get great performance for CS6 right now a PC is a no-brainer really.

I had a similar problem with a 1 day project the other month dealing with XDcam HD disc material, I thought it was a PC issue but my new mac with CS6 gives the same message with the same footage. Oddly EX1 mp4 footage worked. I ended up having to ingest on a macbook pro to avid to prores and transfer to my machine to edit the footage, a lousy solution but it was the only option at the time.

Installing the demo of XD Decode on PC allowed me to view the footage (watermarked since it was a demo), but since these were straight BPAV folders it didn’t make a whole lot of sense since XD Decode is for quicktime files that have the xd codec, not for mxf files. Your post adds to my suspicion that CS6 is not properly installing the XDcam codecs.

I believe you can also opt to get motion 5 instead and you can also get the codecs.

  • the only way is to purchase XDDecode from calibrated software.

Other than that your only other option would be to load the files on a mac then transcode them to a different format that can be read on PC without buying software (ie prores).

I was editing from a 47GB .mov file perfectly fine today (SD prores capture of the switched feed from a hockey game). Loaded in the viewer, scrubbed, and played back just as fast as a 10 second clip. Was running from a WD mybook firewire 800 drive.

just download the whole master collection trial DMG once and copy/transfer, it is the full suite. Once installed you can log into your creative cloud account and activate your subscription.

  • the youtube description has a link to where you can order a logo animated like that for $5, maybe email the guy and see if he will sell you the template or just pay him the $5 to do it for you.
