Preferred editing codecs if Pro Res not available
Hi
So it has started to happen.
I now work on MAcs WITHOUT Final Cut installed for the first time in 12 years.
I am happily switching to Premier, like everyone else.
BUT
What codec can I edit in if there is no Pro Res on the machine?
What are people’s choices/options?Would seem weird to be editing in 100% PJPEG in 2012 but I want faithful colour reproduction, and do not want to transcode to YUV if I can help it.
I know I can DL the Read only ProRes Codec for free.
But workstations I am using in freelance world are coming with default CAS6 only and I often do not have permission to update them.I am often on a single drive Mac, and have been transcoding to Pro Res to edit in.
My files are normally rendered 8 bit (ANIMATION) from After effects as they are made from 8 bit AI/PSD in a graphic design world. If I put a keyframe on every frame, FCP would play these on a 3drive RAID 0 in a mac Pro…Can Premier playback ANIMATION?
THEN
10 bit
I had just about worked out making people render from 16bit AE projects to ProRes 4444 (no Gamma correction) as a playable 10bit RGB master
(Even though it would be incorrectly gamma f•••ed if played in Quicktime, correct as a source file)
What advice to people have with regards RGB 10 bit outputs for mastering?Maybe it is time to embrace the TIFF SEQ workflow, a la Flame, but I have always converted to a quicktime for editing on desktop…
