  • Anyway to have live view of program monitor for client over internet – even low frame rate or still

Does anyone have a way of giving a client some sort of view of the program monitor over the internet. Obviously won’t be real time but even slow frame rate update would be good.

Just an idea I had this morning placing elements and logos for a client elsewhere by phone. I kept sending frame grabs via email but it is a bit slow and clunky.

Any ideas for remote client workflow would be great.

    Cheers
    Andy

I suppose you could use your monitor camera mounted over your shoulder and send it live via Skype…even better, I just did a search on it, and Skype allows you to “share” you screen with one other person for free:

Thanks for the reply and idea. I had a search for online meetings and am trying teamviewer.com, easy to use and does not need to be installed which is handy as I didn’t want to put Skype on my edit machine, was a bit concerned about slowing the machine down even when I am not using Skype.

    Thanks

That’s a good point, Andy – I would not put Skype anywhere near my edit machine either.

If you happen to have two machines available, you could try putting skype on the second machine and using remote desktop of VNC to monitor your edit machine. It would probably decrease performance a bit on the edit machine, but Remote Desktop or VNC should be much more light weight than Skype.

A service like ustream or justin.tv might work as well?

Well if you are able to split or loop through the signal to your program monitor you could send that signal to to a second pc with a capture card/device and use a streaming service like ustream. If you can get an hdmi feed you could use this standalone device made for livestream and not use a second computer at all. Either way it would not impact your edit machine performance at all.
