Editing with EX3 footage in Premiere
Posted by Gully Moore on October 25, 2012 at 3:53 pmHi,
Premiere dosen’t seem to recognise my EX3 footage, it shows up the files in the BPAV folder structure in the media browser but when I try to import them it says ‘the file has no audio or video streams’.
I think they are XDCAM right? I installed the drivers from the Sony website, but they seem to only have FCP ones.
Thanks!

October 25, 2012 at 4:31 pmI had a similar problem with a 1 day project the other month dealing with XDcam HD disc material, I thought it was a PC issue but my new mac with CS6 gives the same message with the same footage. Oddly EX1 mp4 footage worked. I ended up having to ingest on a macbook pro to avid to prores and transfer to my machine to edit the footage, a lousy solution but it was the only option at the time.
Installing the demo of XD Decode on PC allowed me to view the footage (watermarked since it was a demo), but since these were straight BPAV folders it didn’t make a whole lot of sense since XD Decode is for quicktime files that have the xd codec, not for mxf files. Your post adds to my suspicion that CS6 is not properly installing the XDcam codecs.

We’re ingesting and editing EX-3 files all the time in PP 6.0.2 with no added drivers from Sony. Are you sure you dragged or copied the BPAV folder correctly. When you import into PP you should have a dialogue box appear that a certain number of files were not imported, then once you click “OK” on that box the video should be in your project.
This is working on laptop and 12 core mac.
How did you get the files into your system?
thx…jw

October 26, 2012 at 1:06 pmThanks for the replies guys,
I think that the codecs haven’t been installed properly. As this is just a one off working with the EX3 I think I’ll just injest with FCP and import it into PP.

November 8, 2013 at 1:18 amI still have the issues when I worked the Sony EX3 footage from my friend in CS6. The program can’t read the EX3 mp4 material, and I have no other editing applications on my iMac, is there any solution?

April 30, 2014 at 2:42 pmYES! THERE IS A SOLUTION! (at least worked for me…)
After weeks of research about how to properly import MP4 files (from a SONY EX3) and MXF files (from a C300) in PREMIERE I finally found a solution that DID WORK.
You need to install the Calibrated{Q} MXF or MP4 Importer (depending on what you need) and the Calibrated{Q} XD Decode. BOTH.
You can download a demo version (for both, MAC and PC) and try them. They are not free but it totally worth it.
Calibrated{Q} XD Decode

https://forum.cgpersia.com/f37/calibrated-q-osx-full-package-48128/I was also having problems (PC) with gamma shift on both MP4 and MXF files during Premiere playback. That was also fixed 🙂
Im so happy I found this solution!! Hope it works for you!!
Cheers!
