    I will definitely try to. I’ll aim for a few more tests before and after the CC update for raytracing, as well I can do some element 3d tests.

    I myself have had issues with xdcamHD discs in CS6 on a job, ended up having to ingest to prores on a second machine running avid.

    What happens when you try to view the material inside premiere pro off the disc by using the “media browser”?

    I downloaded and checked and there is issues stemming from the clip itself. It was encoded 720×480 but it has flags in the file telling it to play back at 1001×593 and that’s what premiere thinks the frame size in on import (which would mess up the deinterlace operation).

    You can fix the clip with quicktime 7 Pro though, I tried it a couple times and the process is a little odd the way QT sets the visual settings but I think I’ve developed a process to fix it

    Open the clip in QT7 Pro
    click View->Double size
    click Window->show movie properties
    Click on the top track will say the file name “BonusEPS01”, click the “Presentation” tab, then Deselect the checkbox next to “conform aperture to:”
    Now in the same movie properties window click on the “Video Track”, then the “Visual Settings” tab, click the “reset” button
    click View->Actual size
    File save

    After doing this to your file then importing to premiere it worked properly for me, PP sees the frame size as 720×480 and no more odd interlace issues.

    We recently did a show with 2 projectors blended on a super widescreen with the software Millumin. You ben blend screens within the app, do multiple layers with masks, precompose with multiple layers, add in a live video layer from a video input source which allows you to do picture in picture from live sources like camera feeds/presenter or powerpoint feeds.

    I created content before hand to fit the wide resolution in after effects, rendered as prores and millumin took it no problem, seems to be able to take a wide range of media formats(I think it even took illustrator files). It isn’t perfect as it was originally developed for live theatre/artistic productions but is always being developed/updated and in many areas is much more powerful then just a straight playback system.

    I’ve had a job earlier this year that had issues with XDcam HD footage not being recognized in PP or prelude(tested discs from multiple cameras). Both mac or PC on CS6 gave me errors trying to import the files, xdcamEX cards worked fine but xdcam HD discs would not work on PC unless I installed the demo of calibrated xd decode(which shouldn’t be a requirement) and I never got them working on mac PP. Xd decode demo has a watermark so rather than buy the plugin for the 1 day job our fix at the time was ingesting to prores on an avid mac. I can’t say if it is the norm, just my not so smooth experience.

  • When you import an Premiere pro sequence into AE as a composition you cannot go back and make changes in Premiere and have them update in AE. (To do it this way go file->import->Adobe Premiere Pro Project)

    AE can however import a Premeire timeline as a single clip, that way it can be updated in premiere and changes will show up in AE, obviously you don’t have any control in AE over anything in the timeline though. (To do it this way go file->import->file, then choose the sequence(s) to import).

    generally blending modes and transparent gradients are a mixed bag when exporting pdfs.

    I find it’s a good idea to rasterize the transparency before exporting. You can do this by selecting your partially transparent layers and the layers that they are on top of and go Object->flatten transparency. Obviously these parts of your file will no longer be vector and are considered raster images, this can increase your file size. The flatten transparency option does let you choose the resolution it flattens at.

    NOTE you will want to duplicate your art/layers that you are flattening before flattening if you want to retain future editing abilities of your shapes and opacity/blend modes.

  • I might know your issue.

    In your timeline click the “Toggle switches / modes” button at the bottom, then look under the TrkMat (Track Matte) column on your video layer, if it says anything but “none” then the video clip is being effected by the layer above it. If you click the dropdown box in the same TrkMat column on your video layer it should say the name of the layer in quotation marks, that is the layer that you also need to extend. If it is a template then the layer might be hidden so you may have to click the “shy” icon at the top of the timeline window to reveal it.

    Worth trying, you can do the 30 day free trial.

    At work I run CS6 on a mac pro 2,1, 10gb ram, with the same video card. I definitely get better render times on my own PC and my macbook pro but a lot of work gets done on the mac pro still, mostly working in 720p and standard def using much of the production suite. I usually do advanced AE comps at home or on my macbook if it is complex and/or needs raytracing or element 3d.
