    Dave,
    Great Advice.
I’ve been using Picts with alphas for the last century; read your idea, tried it and it worked a treat.
    So much easier, too.
Have updated my GFX workflow as a result.
    Thanks!

[Dave Schweitzer] “…try PNG. PNG files save with transparency information, and will import into Avid beautifully. Turn on the layers you want in your PSD, effects, masks, transparency, whatever. Get it to look how it should and save out a PNG (non-interlaced is what I use). Then import that directly into the Avid. You may need to test out the invert / use existing switch to see what works best.”

    “Re-read the thread.”

    Yep. My bad.

He is able to give his client what he asked for.
    All is good.

[Ernie Santella] “… shoot with the camera set at 1080/50i, digitize into FCP at 1080/50i then drag it into a PAL DV timeline and resize?”

    Why ask us?
I would think the best person to ask is your client.
No point sending SD DV footage to someone who can use or would prefer a HD format.
So, check with the end user, would be my course of action.

February 12, 2008 at 9:04 am in reply to: Pros & Cons of multiple Users in home environment

[Zane Barker] “…you should at least have a separate user account for the kids … You should not give them administrator rites on the computer, YOU should be the one who determines what gets installed on the computer.”
They wouldn’t know the Password; isn’t that enough?

“You can also set the itunes & iphoto libraries to be on an external drive, and then set each user account to look for the library on the external drive.”

    a) Can that work using the internal drive? Why an external one?
    b) Does that prevent duplication of files? (Songs or Photos)

    Thanks.

[Ashley James] “One other observation: when RT is in “dynamic” the transition looks fine, but when rendered at high quality the problem occurs.”

What codec is the Seq using and
What extra hardware are you running (aja, BlackMagic etc.)

I PAL, all codecs are Upper Field except the DV codecs, which are Lower field.
