Pretty much same again here.
I have FCP7, Avid Symphony 6.5, CS 5.5 and Resolve all living happily together. Had RCPX as well, although currently not installed, all played nice.
Thats on an i7 MBP

just to clarify. FCP7 is a 32 bit application and as such can only utilise a limited amount of RAM. 4 Gigs is about as much as it can use. So increasing it to 8 or 16 etc i not going to have any real effect on FCP7. It may give your machine in general better performance but FCP7 alone will not benefit.

As others have said FCPX is a 64 bit App that can utilise all of your RAM so adding more will increase the performance. Many people have reported that FCPX works better the more RAM you throw at it. 16 GIGS would be a decent amount not sure there is too much advantage in exceeding 32 Gigs though and as you say its an expensive upgrade.
This holds true for all 32 and 64 bit applications. 32=limited ram use 64=capable of using all RAM.

I have an 8 core MAC PRO which has 12 gigs RAM and a new i7 MACBOOK PRO with 16 gigs ram. FCPX runs so much quicker on the laptop it is very noticeable.
As does Avid which is also a 64 bit Application. This is because they can utilise all the RAM and the hyper threading on the laptop.

FCP7 runs pretty much the same on both as it can’t utilise the extra RAM and CPU features on the laptop.

Hi Morton

I know you didn’t want to get bogged down in the tech discussion (don’t blame you) but Just to clear up the tech confusion although you describe your machine as the “beefed up top model” it was not quite. The late 2011 MBP’s included a i7 2.4 gig and 2.5 gig model which had the 6770M card fitted which does have 1GB video ram. This was in both 15″ and 17″ versions.
Yours must be the late 2011 2.2 gig version which was the only one fitted with the 6750M card which indeed is 512gig as you describe.
That may be why yours is perhaps a little slower in that regard

Obviously not specialist software like ProxyMill but this could speed up your workflow depending on the method you currently use.

Shane Ross did a good tutorial on this using FCP7 and Compressor which while not as quick or easy as ProxyMill speeds up the process a good amount.

Hi

I use Gen Arts Sapphire for this effect – its called Film Roll. However there will be other plug in’s that do pretty much the same kind of transition.
Check out Sapphire film roll and it should set you in the right direction for others too.

if you click on the little pan icon next to the green speaker monitoring icons it should change from stereo to mono in the clip settings of the log and capture window.

I have added 2 pics as it not totally obvious. Hope that helps

In some ways the age of the footage and its very interesting content forgives a certain amount of flickering and artefacts. Having said that It looks like a field issue or maybe some frame blending thats not helping. Does de-interlacing help at all?

Might swap it out for a TTAP and forego Resolve playback.

Your sequence does not exist as a discrete QT file until you export it. Up to that point it is merely pointing to all of your source clips and render files where you have created effects, colour corrections, captions etc. So there is no QT file to find.

Add markers in your sequence then edit the markers to become “chapter markers”

When you export you should select your sequence and choose export, quicktime move, and you will get a window like this

If you export using current settings the quality should match your sequence quality. You can also include markers, you need to add chapter markers in FCP in order for them to translate correctly.

Finally ensure you tick the Make Movie Self Contained option.

That should produce a QT file identical to your sequence settings and quality and contain data for your chapter markers.
