One thing that may be worth a try.
There is a ProApps update that will take Cinema Tools to 4.5.1 which was the last version. Same goes for FCP it goes to 7.03.
I am using Maverick 10.9.2 with these versions and although outdated they work without any issues.
Wont be long before they don’t anymore I suspect but so far so good.

Agree with Dave OEM is usually Original Equipment Manufacturer and sometimes refers to driver files but never heard of it relating to an audio format.
OMF sounds like best bet.

I bought an earlier model of this card about 9 months ago and ended up returning it as it gave me all kinds of issues on the USB3 side. Hubs were not supported and the bluetooth mouse would not work. I believe it was to do with the position of the antennae or something along those lines. I think it was the 6GU3 model (not pro)
Anyway does anyone know if this new card fixes those issues ?? Be great to find out.

My experience so far is that it seems to run pretty well, although as Shane says, it is totally unsupported and probably only a matter of time before a release of the OS does break it properly.
I have not had any specific issues yet and the plug-ins I use work.
However I did cheat a bit, Having read some people had problems installing other not, rather than mess about I did a clean install of Snow Leopard. Installed just FCP7, did the upgrades to 7.03 and then upgraded to Maverick. Then added other Apps etc.
So not a clean clean install but as close as I thought might work and it did.

Hi Robert,

Pretty much everything you describe is down to trying to edit MP4 H264 files in FCP7. A quick search here will show you this is a no no.
Either you need to transcode your files to ProRes or use something else to edit if your client won’t let you change them.
But otherwise these issues will dog you throughout your edit.

One possible reason for not getting clean edits or flash frames in a sequence is trying to edit H264 clips directly into the timeline.
This often results in the kind of behaviour that you mention.
If this is the case transcode to ProRes and you should be fine.

Still in my dock and I still use it albeit less than I used to. I did my first freelance FCP7 edit in a few months just before Xmas so it is slowing down but still way from dead. Avid seems to largely have taken up the slack around here (London)

You may get a much better response if you post your question in the FCPX Techniques forum as this one and the FCP forum tend to be for FCP7 users.

However as a general rule then the faster and larger your external drive for your media is the better. USB2 is never going to be quick enough for ProRes as you have pretty much worked out.
So given you are on an Air with Thunderbolt it makes the most sense to use that. I would go for the largest drive I could afford as storage has a funny knack of never quite being enough. While the smaller drive will easily handle your 20 mins final edit it depends on how ugh footage you need to capture to complete your edit.
In terms of ProRes thats a good choice of codec for editing, if you have source from DLSR then transcode to ProRes 422 or even LT. The HQ and 4444 versions are way too much for H264 source material.

Hi Juliana

As Rafael says that is a standard HD image and would not usually be considered anamorphic. Certainly if nothing appears distorted then I think they are confused about “anamorphic”
It could be that your client shot HD but would like you to letterbox the image which kind of makes sense of the comment about the top and bottom being cut.
If that is the case you do not need to distort the image but simply use a mask top and bottom. There are various film aspect masks you can use depending on the amount of letter boxing required.
