Once you find out how it was created and can play it – I would transcode it to ProRes.
Mpeg and H264 are not really designed for editing so avoid those if you can.best wishes

It sounds like you have followed most of the “rules” by baking and having no speed changes.
However no reel numbers/names on your clips may be upsetting things.I would suggest that you add a reel number to your clips before sending to Color.
Add a number to each reel as appropriate – see if that helps.
I have seen issues with sequences with large numbers of cuts but not easy to say how “large” is too large.
You say its short so this probably does not apply but if it is more than about 20 mins long might want to break it up. If you really have a huge number of cuts in a shorter sequence it may also be worth trying to send it it two halves.
Many of these problems are fixed in v7.03 but I guess thats not an option for you.

Sorry this is slightly vague but I think we are missing some info here.
The reason that none of your apps will “see” this file is that you dont have the codec installed that was used to create it.
The reason you saw it working fine on the other computer is that they do have the required codec.
If MPEG 2 is the only clue that the properties gives you then downloading the playback component was a sensible move but this is almost certainly down to a missing codec.
Are you able to check with the originator how they created/encoded it ?
Are they able to transcode it to something you can use to edit it ?
Its hard for me to advise exactly what would work as it depends what Apps they have as to their options.
If you can find out how they originated it then may be able to help more.

If you open the mixer tool you can click the track mutes above the faders – its the little speaker symbol which turns yellow once muted.
That will mute your source tracks without having to fade them down.

The fact that you only get a “a greyed out “none”” suggests that you do not have a source clip with audio loaded into the viewer window.
If you load a clip with audio tracks you should see what I describe.The reason both tracks are moving together is probably because they are a stereo pair. This is indicated by 2 small arrows that appear at the start of the clip that point towards eachother.
If you select the clip and go to the modify menu you will see “stereo pair” – uncheck this and you will then be able to move the two tracks independently.

There are a couple of ways that you can route your source tracks to specific record tracks.
Firstly in the track area at the left of the timeline simply click/drag the source track number eg a1 to the record track number eg a4.
The a1 source track will then allign with a4 and the audio will be routed to that track.You can also right click on the record track number eg a4 and you will see a pop up that contains the options that exist from your source, so a1 or a2 or whatever those tracks are. Just select the one you require.
If you want to move existing footage in the timeline you can simply select it a drag it to whichever track you like. You may need to unlink it from the video and/or use snapping or shift to stop it accidently moving out of sync.

Just to add to Rafael’s comments.
Make sure you have upgraded to FCP 7.03 as 7.0 and all versions before are buggy when round tripping FCP/Color.
Are the clips that appear to be 1 frame long speed adjusted ? This is typical of slomo/sped up clips in versions prior to 7.03.
There are also issues with imported stills, freeze frames, in fact pretty much anything that is not a standard normal speed quicktime movie.
7.03 fixes pretty much all of these issues but as Rafael says – you must have compatible media first.

I am pretty sure that the Epic is not compatible with the Log and Transfer tool.
I believe that it does not create proxy files like a Red One and that Redcine X is the only answer at the moment.
You can accelerate process that with a Red Rocket card but sadly they dont come cheap.
I think you can make proxies in Redcine but have not tried that so cant advise if that would be quicker than just using Redcine alone.

You can either use RedCine or the FCP log and transfer tool.
In order to use the log and transfer tool you must download the Red plug-in from the Red support site.

I think it is quite a tricky time to know exactly what to do at this time.
It is clear that FCP 7 has limited life. It is likely to be around for a few years one way or another but there is no doubt that its users will have to decide how they are going to move forward at some point.Since you already have a PC and Adobe I would certainly look at Avid. It will run on a PC or a Mac and the educational deal is very good.
I have not used Adobe but if you can operate Avid on a PC the Mac version is 99% the same so you would have no real problems migrating from one to the other.
Also I think it is fair to say that most of the higher end facility houses, broadcasters and film studios are Avid based.
If your goal is to work in that area then it will be a good thing to learn.
Smaller more local places may have already or have plans to turn to Adobe or Avid in the next couple of years if FCPX does not gain popularity.Where I work in the UK I move between Avid and FCP 7 pretty much job by job. As yet Adobe is not that popular but that could well change.
I would check out your local edit facilities or your potential employers and see what they are using before spending too much money.
