Hi
I am in London and work for many broadcast facility houses, broadcasters and production companies. So far the universal decision has been to ignore FCPX, I dont know anyone who is using it. Those with FCP7 are currently broadly sticking with it. I know one FCP set-up that is looking to Avid but at the moment it seems people are staying as they are.
Adobe have yet to gain any real popularity in the broadcast/facilities market here, again dont know anyone who uses it in that field.Avid is by far the dominant platform in broadcast/facilities here. Probably upward of a 75/25 split.
I am hearing more and more “Mac people” talking about switching to Windows, which is certainly not something I have come across before. That said not sure anyone has actually done it yet.
As others have said I think you will be fine with FCP7 for a few years yet. My feeling is stick as you are unless you really do need to consider a longer term future now, if so, I like you, would go Avid.

This can not be done by simply moving project files as FCPX can not open projects from any earlier versions of FCP or the other way around. So moving between the two is currently impossible anyway.
The XML versions are different too so cant use that route.There have been a few suggestions that a third party may come up with a way of doing this, Apple currently say it is not possible, but others have shown it may be and have used things like CATDV to get part way there.
But as I understand it no solution as yet though.

You need to go to file and the log and transfer.
Then using the icon on the right just above the media duration column slect preferences and change the target format next to Canon EOS Movie to ProRes 422Then use the top left icon to add the location of your 5D files. The folder must be intact as shot.
You will then see your clips.
Add all or your selection to the queue, or just drag them to the lower window. Let this happen without using your mac or often the files are cut short.
The clips will be added to the project as they are created.best wishes

When you say wrong timing do you mean just part of the sequence ?
If that is the case, make sure you do not have any in or out marks before you export or you will just get the marked section rather than the whole thing.

One thing to try is this.
Make a copy of your sequence – not strictly needed but I always do this for safety.
Create a new bin, highlight all clips in your sequence and drag them to your new bin.
You will then have a list of what is in the sequence and you can check for H264 in the Compressor column.
You can then safely delete these once investigated.

IF you shoot 5D and want to edit in FCP then you must transcode the media to ProRes.
If you edit with the original H264 files you will have issues.
You need to download the Canon EOS Movie Plug in. You can find this on the 5D page of the Canon site under software Mac OSX (just search there as it does not appear under the specific OSX versions)
Then use log and transfer to import your clips – Use ProRes 422 – you dont really need HQ or 4444 as you gain no quliaty but you do increase your file sizes.
While doing this dont use your mac for anything else or the clips can be truncated. Set it running and go make coffee 🙂DVD Studio Pro is confusing for HD DVDs – the HD function is not BluRay but an obsolete HD format, Ignore it, you cant really use it for anything other than standard def. Your mac also will not have a BluRay burner as standard unless you have replaced it or bought an external one.
Export an HD ProRes Quicktime once edited (use existing settings)
I would then use Compressor to make a good quality SD Quicktime to use in DVD Studio (from your HD master file) stick with ProRes for that or H264 but that will take a lot longer to transcode.
You can create an H264 for BluRay file in Compressor – its one of the templates. But you cant burn in in DVDSP
– I think Toast offers BluRay but you need a BluRay burner.best wishes

There are 2 easy ways to do this.
Double click on the clip that you want to zoom in the timeline.
This will load it into the viewer for editing.
Then select the MOTION tab at the top of the VIEWER window.
You will se there controls for SCALE and CENTER.
Using a combination of those you can position the image.Or
There are 3 buttons above the image in the CANVASS window,
Select the 3rd and select IMAGE+WIREFRAME. You will notice a cross hair appear with selectable corner points.
You can then corner drag or click drag the image or rotate by putting your curser next to the corner dot (the icon changes.) Us this to create the required size/position.
Use OPT + or – to zoom the whole image in the CANVASS window so you can se the edges – makes it a little easier to see what you are doing.best wishes

I had to capture some old VHS stuff for the first time in years a few weeks back.
I ended up getting something like this

May help if the camera thing doesnt happen ?

In the VIEW menu you will see the option for Loop Playback.
Just uncheck this and you should be fine.best wishes

As Raphael says FCP 6.0 is not XDCAM capable – I think 6.02 and above is so if you can updae that – should help.
The XD package here may be useful. However it looks like FCP 6 updates are still available. So I would go that route first.
